"Give It 2 Me," featuring Pharrell, is the second single off Madonna's latest album Hard Candy. I'm no fan of Madonna. She scares me. I don't see how she is talented whatsoever vocally. That said, I can't deny that the production of this song is hot. The video isn't horrible, though Madonna is nothing to look at. I still have to admit that Hard Candy is becoming somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. I be diggin' Pharrell's work!

Usher Performs On Good Morning America
Usher appeared on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series this morning to perform 3 songs from his new album Here I Stand: "This Ain't Sex," "Moving Mountains," & "Love In This Club," all of which can be viewed in the video above. No wonder he lip-synched "Moving Mountains" on the BET special. I've always viewed Usher as a great vocalist, but he just isn't showing it lately. I feel like he is letting his arrogance get in the way of putting on a great performance--something that is especially evident to me during "This Ain't Sex." Still, he is an awesome performer, so this showing wasn't horrible by any means. I just haven't been really impressed with anything other than his SNL performances this time around.
Koda Kumi ft. Fergie "That Ain't Cool" Video Premiere
Here's the video for "That Ain't Cool," the new single from Koda Kumi that features the one & only Fergie. I've never heard of this Koda person &, quite frankly, I haven't heard much from her--even after watching this video--because Fergie is almost the whole song. Fergie looks great in the video & I really dig the song.
Toni Braxton Cancels Vegas Show
Due to an unspecified illness, Toni Braxton has been forced to cancel the remaining dates of her show "Toni Braxton: Revealed" in Las Vegas. Toni was admitted to the hospital back on April 7th & was scheduled to resume the show in June. While no details have been revealed concerning what she has been treated for, Toni has had heart trouble in the past. David Archuleta appeared, along with David Cook, on TRL yesterday for a chat. The most interesting part was when Damien put the Davids to the test & actually had them sing from the phonebook. Not so sure that was exactly what Randy had in mind for Archey, but he represented well nonetheless. One thing I learned: I now understand why people think Cook reminds them of Jack Black ... because we all know he is known for his singing ability. Elliott Yamin takes on "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from the Disney film "The Lion King" on the recently released sixth installment of the Disneymania CD series. Words cannot express how against Disney Channel stars completely wrecking all that is good in the world of Disney I am, but Elliott, being a truly talented artist, is an exception. Weekend Flashback Performance: *NSYNC At The 2000 MTV VMAs
First off, let me apologize for the incredibly obnoxious tags before & after this video; this has got to be the only one of this performance on YouTube, though. Anyway, back in the day, when people like *NSYNC were scheduled to perform on something, it was an event. Their medley on the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards is not only no exception, but one of their best performances. We may be too cool for them these days, but there is no denying that *NSYNC was one heck of a group of performers.

Britney Spears Working On New Album
Britney Spears is reportedly in the early stages of recording the follow-up album to last year's Blackout. She is working with producers J.R. Rotem & Sean Garrett. A source told People magazine more details:"Britney is in the experimental stages of a new album," says the source. "She's trying to find the sound and direction she wants to go in, but nothing is set in stone just yet. She has been playing the piano a lot and just singing. She says she misses 'just singing.'"
This is some interesting news. I can see how Britney would want to start fresh by recording some new material for a proper comeback, but I just hope she waits until she is ready to release it. It is also a shame that her Blackout material won't really be treated as well as it deserves to be. Nonetheless, I am happy to hear that new music is on the way & I wish her only the best.

Overall, this was a pretty good show. There were a LOT of musical numbers, as you can see. Archey sang with OneRepublic ... & I kinda wish he could've just sung the whole thing by himself(!), but it was cool. Syesha was great, as always, in everything she did. Jordin sang as the reigning Idol & probably had a slightly difficult time hearing herself sing, but I love her anyway. David Archuleta's reactions to Mike Myers' Guru are priceless! (...Mariska Hargitay! lol) I also gotta give credit to Carly, whose talent was very underrated this season; I really hope she has a successful career because she deserves it. Lastly, Archey's Guitar Hero commercial ... kicks Cook's commercial's butt (no pun intended)!

*UPDATED* Jennifer Hudson Album Update
Jennifer Hudson is preparing for the release of her self-titled debut album this September. The set will be preceded by first single "Spotlight," which will impact radio on June 9th & be available for download the following day. The single was produced by Ne-Yo & Stargate, while other contributors to her album include Timbaland, The Underdogs (who worked on the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack), Diane Warren, Robin Thicke, & Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. Jennifer had the following hint to give as to what to expect:I think people will be pleasantly surprised, because it shows a side of my work that no one has heard before.

Weekend Flashback Performance: Christina Aguilera At The 2000 MTV VMAs
So, I think I'm gonna finish out the '00 VMAs & post all my favorite performances from that show because, well, I just really liked it that year. Here we have Christina Aguilera performing "Come On Over Baby" all the way back from her debut album. She was very energetic & her vocal delivery was flawless as usual. Many might remember this one, however, as she was joined on stage at the end by Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit (remember when the world cared about them?). Just a lil' somethin'-somethin' for shock value. This has just always been one of my faves from Christina.

As the producers wished, Syesha Mercado was voted(?) off of American Idol this week after making the top 3. I felt a separate post was needed to commemorate the accomplishments of this outstanding contestant. Syesha is one of the best talents this show has ever seen & I'm so happy she was so successful. I'm so very proud of her! Just to clarify, I do believe that she had the lowest number of votes (neither David has ever been in the bottom anything before), but I know her finale chances were sabotaged for ratings. Anyway, after looking back, Syesha had an amazing night of performances this week & I've provided them for you all to view. Enjoy them for now, as I'm positive we will be seeing more of Syesha soon!

Mary J. Blige Performs "Stay Down" On Oprah
Watch Mary J. Blige perform "Stay Down," the second single off her latest album (& Oprah's favorite of the summer) Growing Pains, on Oprah. "Stay Down" was a standout imo on Growing Pains (which I think is a solid album), but after watching this performance, I have a newfound love for the song. And yet ... they both lost in the finale to Whitney, Cycle 10's plus-size model. Oh ... & did I mention that Whitney can't model?
'Why, then, is she the new Top Model winner?' you might wonder. Why, thanks for asking! Buzz on the show was fading, some believing it had gone on far beyond its time. (Note: Was I one of those people? No! Was I a loyal watcher who still enjoyed the show whole-heartedly? Yes!) Also, many were simply positive that a full-figured girl would never win the show.
Hmm... let's see. Your show is on the most ratings-challenged network of all the major stations & people are losing interest. Oh, the horror! So, Tyra did the one simply pathetic thing she could possibly do to make the world care in the least bit that her little show still exists--make a plus-size girl win. Well, Whitney, in all her caddy, haughty glory, was the only one there, so she had to win. Unfortunately for Tyra & Co., Whitney can't model. They knew this because she had been in the bottom 2 ... 4 times! But, ah heck, so much for the reputation of the show.
What makes this bad is that the girls she was up against were not only SOOO much better than Whitney, but they could have easily won any other cycle of the show. And Anya was actually extremely likable on top of her uncanny ability to model! As for Fatima, there is no way around it: the girl is incredible.
So, there you have it. The show has gone the way of American Idol with its rigging for ratings & there's no hiding it. Pathetic.

The Pussycat Dolls (lead singer Nicole Scherzinger pictured at the left) are preparing to launch their second album. The girls will perform their first single from the album, "When I Grow Up", at this year's MTV Movie Awards, airing on June 1st. As a huge Nicole fan, I'm interested to see how PCD will do this time around!

Ciara "Fantasy Ride" Update
Ciara is taking a very different approach to her forthcoming third album Fantasy Ride that is set for release in September. For the album, CiCi will be releasing 3 separately packaged discs, bundled together, that will each feature 5 to 6 similarly-themed songs. Here's a breakdown of how that will work:Disc 1 - "Groove City" - features sensual songs in the vain of her hit "Promise"
Disc 2 - "Crunktown" - self-explanatory, features songs similar to "Goodies"
Disc 3 - "Kingdom Of Dance" - features house-leaning, freestyle-type songs
Tricky Stewart (Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body") & Ciara are executive producers of the project, which Tricky will take over, along with Jasper, on the "Groove City" disc. For the finale, Usher, accompanied by Young Jeezy, performed his current single & #1 hit "Love In This Club" for the first time in the US to start off promotion for his new album Here I Stand, which is set to be released on May 27th & is shaping up to me a very solid record. The performance was weird on account of the girls blocking the view of the cameras constantly, but Usher was back on it. He is one heck of a performer.

So, here's Kelly Rowland & Ashlee Simpson both on BBC's Sound in the UK recently, performing the same songs they've been pushing across the pond for a while now. 2 things: 1) What's with the setting? Are they performing under an overpass? WTH?! & 2) I think I get it now. Due to their previous success, both their record companies idiotically made the decision that promotion to sell a record was not necessary. Discovering how pathetic their choices were in the equally pathetic sales that followed, they gave up on the US, instead turning their attention to the UK. Since, they've been trying to right their wrongs to Kelly & Ashlee by making them perform the same song 867 times in the last couple weeks all in the same place. Ya, that's how it's supposed to work...
Ashanti Sings Dedication To "Mother"
Seen here in a dedication to her mom to tie in with Mother's Day, Ashanti sings her new song "Mother", which we are hearing for the first time. Weekend Flashback Performance: Britney Spears At The 2000 MTV VMAs
Ah, those were the days. Remember when everyone was excited about the new millennium, totally into pop music, & you could tune into the MTV Video Music Awards & they would rock your world? So, in keeping with the same awesome show as last week, I would like to feature Britney Spears' performance of both "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" & "Oops!... I Did It Again", in which she famously stripped off her suit to reveal a skin-colored glittery outfit & proceeded to rock the stage like nobody's business. I remember watching this & really getting into it ... as much as possible, being that I was young & my mom was in the room. That's still a hot remix & that's still a hot performance.

Monica Preparing Reality Show
Monica has announced that she will be shooting a reality show to give fans an inside look at the making of her new album. The show will document her everyday life being a mom as well as the recording of her new material. Monica has also reserved the recording of any possible first single off the new record for the taping of the show. The faint of heart, avert your eyes! I apologize for forcing you all to face the cover of it, but Madonna's Hard Candy does debut atop the Billboard 200 album chart this week. However, poor Madge didn't even come close to Mariah's first-week total, which I find interesting for an album with, from what I've heard, apparently not a single problem ... except for the artist who recorded it. Just saying ... that's what happens when you aren't true to yourself. Anywho, last week's overall album sales weren't anything to cheer about. Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People came in at #25 (not a misprint...) week one with a whopping 19,000 (...nor is this) copies sold. Note to record companies: does this, once & for all, show you that push-backs are not the way to go & to release the album while the buzz is still hot? Probably the saddest, yet least unexpected, news comes in the form of Estelle's masterpiece Shine debuting at #38. Why don't Americans know what good music is?! Also, Sarah McLachlan's compilation album Rarities, B-Sides, & Other Stuff 2 started off at #44. ... On the Hot 100 singles chart, Leona Lewis tops the chart for a second straight (& fourth non-consecutive) week with "Bleeding Love". No stoppin' this British import!

Idol Review: Top 4
Best of the week? Tie between David Archuleta's "Love Me Tender" (W-O-W) [left] & Syesha's "A Change Is Gonna Come" (that beginning! that end! omg.) [right]. WE DID IT!! TOP 3!!! Archie & Syesha! They've been my favorites the whole season (check the archives!) & I honestly couldn't ask for more. They did amazing this week. Along with Carly, my four favorites were rounded out with Jason, so while it's sad to see him go, it was definitely his time & he was ready to go. On the results show, Maroon 5 stopped by (in honor of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame week) & performed their new single "If I Never See Your Face Again" (without Rihanna):

"Bye Bye" is the second single off Mariah Carey's new #1 album E=MC². The clip features beautiful beauty shots of Mariah singing as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Mariah promoting her new album (even the Vibe photoshoot!) & with lost friends, relatives, etc. Oh yeah, & it also features Nick Cannon. I get the video now that I've watched it ... a time or 2 ... & it's very nice. Hopefully MC will return to the top with this one!
Christina Aguilera Album Update
Christina Aguilera recently commented on her upcoming project, her fourth studio album, which is due this fall (not that I believe that will happen). She discussed, in a way, the sound she is (or isn't) going for:This record is going to be very different from my previous record Back To Basics. I'm working with a lot of different people so it's a little hard for me to really go for a specific theme this time around, but I can assure you that it's going to be a very very interesting record. Am I nervous? Of course but I'm also very excited. I never like to play it safe so it's always a little risky to release a record that doesn't sound like everything else out there. I mean, I love Timbaland's music for example but I would never work with people like that because everyone else is doing it already.
I'm excited that she describes the work she's done so far in this way because this situation creates an opportunity for her to place the best of the best on the actual album for us this time around. Also, good for her for not simply jumping on the bandwagon of today's hottest producers [see: Madonna]. She is too talented for that & has the potential to create great timeless music anyway.

On Loose Women, the British version of The View, Kelly talked about men, friends, etc. & performed "Daylight". So as to not repeat myself, I will say that I am admiring Kelly's spirit right now; I just wish Americans would have embraced her the same way they seem to be across the pond.
Brandy Album Update
Brandy, who recently signed a new record deal with Epic, is hard at work on her upcoming fifth studio album. Alicia Keys collaborator Kerry "Krucial" Brothers commented on working with Brandy:I’m just starting with Brandy. I can’t give too much details yet but I can tell you she is really coming with it with this album, it’s definitely going to broaden her horizons. She is coming in a whole new direction, she is ready to show people where she’s at. She’s doing definitely what people are used to her doing, but definitely stepping it up too. We are just getting started, but we always do our best to make sure whatever we do is definitely hot and quality. She’s excited I’m excited. That’s all I can say for right now.
I don't think I am anticipating anything much more than I am a new Brandy record, so this sounds pretty exciting. Though not many details were revealed, the project seems to be coming together quite nicely, especially if the buzz tracks, persay, that have leaked are any indication of the hotness to come.

Recently, when Kelly Rowland visited The Paul O'Grady show in the UK to perform her latest single "Daylight", she sat down for an interview as well. It turned out to be quite interesting, as Ms. Kelly brought along her friend's dog Biscuit. Hilarity ensues.

Weekend Flashback Performance: Janet Jackson At The 2000 MTV VMAs
Taking it all the way back to Y2K, shortly before her All For You days, Janet Jackson gave a stellar performance of her song "Doesn't Really Matter" from her movie "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Here, we see Janet as the performer we all know & love. She was even ahead of the curve style-wise, a position she no doubt has grown accustomed to over the years. I can't wait to see Miss Jackson dancing like she used to again during her upcoming tour! With those Discipline tracks, I know she has some tricks up her sleeve.
Celine Dion "Eyes On Me" Video Premiere
"Eyes On Me" is the new single off Celine Dion's latest album Taking Chances, released late last year. I thought the next single was supposed to be "Alone" ... maybe they released that one to AC radio ... I dunno. Anyway, I really dig this track, but you don't really get a great sense of the song with this video, as it is a live video with the actual live singing as well. I've never really been a fan of the "live video" (I was hoping she would shoot one for this ... such a missed opportunity), but she does look good--as if she ever hasn't. I guess she's just trying to show us what she is up to at the moment via music video...

Ashlee Simpson did a trio of performances on Yahoo! Pepsi Smash to promote her brand new album Bittersweet World. "Boys" has a really cool vibe & sound that just works, so I hope it is chosen as the next single, which would make sense considering all the push it's been getting. Also included are the performances of Ashlee's first two singles. They are basically the same as we've previously seen.
Karina "16 @ War" Video Premiere
"16 @ War" is the first single off Karina's debut album First Love, due June 3rd. Karina is Def Jam's new artist & has a sound very similar to Tiffany Evans. She also recorded a demo of Cassie's first single "Official Girl" which has been floating around. I think the video is hot & I'm really digging this girl. She's mad talented.

Leona Lewis Performs "Better In Time" On Sunrise
Leona Lewis is currently promoting her second international single "Better In Time" in Australia on their show Sunrise. She's just everywhere! A decent performance from Leona. Two things: 1) Why is she cutting this song short in her performances just like she did with "Bleeding Love"? & 2) What's with the back-up singers, anyway? LOL at the guy lip-synching Leona's backing track. I'm sure he sounds JUST like that.
Ashlee Simpson Performs "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" On Loose Women
Ashlee Simpson is now the one making the rounds in the UK, performing her single "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" on Loose Women. I like this performance better, with the more intimate feel somehow working for the song. The vocals were better, too.

Here we have a pretty exciting week on Billboard. Mariah Carey's brilliant new album E=MC² remains at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week, while Leona Lewis' single "Bleeding Love" regains the #1 slot on the Hot 100 singles chart after a performance on American Idol last week. Congrats to these two ladies & their much-deserved success. However, last week's releases didn't fair incredibly well. Ashlee Simpson entered the Billboard 200 at a respectable #4 this week with 47,000 copies sold of her third effort Bittersweet World. I think that, with the way radio hasn't picked up her new material & with all the promotion only happening during the release week, Ashlee did decently for herself--her fans are still behind her. I do feel sorry for Tiffany Evans however, as her self-titled debut album entered the album chart at #134. Everyone should really check this girl out--she's great!

This is an interesting declaration indeed. It personally excites me that previous attempts at the lead single "Switch (ft. Nelly)" & "Hey Baby (After The Club)" have been left off of the album because I felt that they were very weak tracks. I totally dig "The Way That I Love You" though, so I am optimistic that the album will be hot! I must say that I am not in the least bit a fan of Robin Thicke, but what can you do when you aren't into the popular thing of the moment? Also, it's interesting that the Nelly & Akon leaked song "Body On Me" will apparently feature Ashanti as well. In related news, Ashanti should be appearing on TRL and 106 & Park around the time of the album's release.

Idol Review: Top 5
The video above features both of Syesha's performances this week. Last girl standing--yes! She is easily the best female this year & one of my favorites ever on the show. Syesha definitely deserves to have made it this far, as it is obvious to see how her wide range of talent & ability to diversify stands out above the rest. That said, check out wonder boy David Archuleta's performances below:
The kid is freaking amazing. For anyone who has never been a teenage boy, what he does isn't normal. He has a crazy ability to sing that I love &, even more so, respect; he can sing anything & we would fall in love with it because he is so daggum talented. Being realistic, in a David vs. David finale, Archuleta far & away deserves the title more. David Cook is not AT ALL what he is cracked up to be. He doesn't make the songs original--either he steals someone elses idea to make a guitar-driven rock song out of it or he simply makes a guitar-driven rock song out of it. He screams a note in the middle & everyone loves it. He'll sell records, though, with or without winning, so he can just leave & make a record--like Brooke should. She is talented at what she does & her fans will eat it up. Heck, I even feel the same way about Jason. I like him & I would buy a CD of him doing his thing. Anyway, Natasha Bedingfield performed her new single "Pocketful Of Sunshine" on this week's results show & had an interesting Archuleta moment:

The Paul O'Grady Show in the UK continues to get all the biggest stars in music, this time being Ashlee Simpson. She performed "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)," her first single from her new album Bittersweet World in the US, for a change; apparently that's the song they are pushing across the pond. It was cool to see her perform this one, but it wasn't a great performance. I kinda wish they hadn't had the song playing with the vocals in some parts because it just made Ash sound out of tune; she would have been fine without them. But, hey, at least she sang live!

Oh ... my ... dang. *Gulp* Mariah has done, like, the hottest photo shoot ever to promote the release of her latest album E=MC², currently the reigning #1 album in the country, for UK's i-D magazine. "Last Name" is the third single off Carrie Underwood's sophomore album Carnival Ride. This video is a prequel to her previous mega-hit "Before He Cheats" & is really cool. Carrie always keeps us entertained with her videos. I must say, though--I recently saw her in concert & Carrie is the real deal. Her vocals are incredible & always flawless.

Jordin Sparks has revealed that she is "feeling good" as she recovers from her acute vocal hemorrhage, which is "almost all the way healed." While she will thankfully be returning to the Alicia Keys tour in a few days, Jordin revealed that her "career COULD HAVE BEEN in jeopardy if [she] hadn't done anything about it." She had this to say to her fans:Thank you for all the prayers and your concern. You guys are what keep me going, honestly. But not to worry! I'll be better in no time!

"Don't Touch Me (Throw Da Water On 'Em)" is the buzz single from Busta Rhymes' upcoming album Blessed, due June 17th, while "We Made It" with Linkin Park is the official first single off the album. While I think they made the better decision releasing the latter to radio, which will most likely eat it up, I'm not particularly fond of "We Made It" & I actually prefer "Don't Touch Me." The video is much more entertaining, taking us back to Busta's signature style, which is fascinating to me. What is it with Linkin Park & rappers anyway?
