Ruben Studdard Gets Married

American Idol season 2 champ Ruben Studdard married Surata Zuri McCants in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday. The two met in Atlanta in October of 2006 at a Wal-Mart where Studdard was signing CDs. The groom had 20 groomsmen at the ceremony. Well, I didn't know he was even with anyone, but congratulations to the happy couple!

Day26 "Since You've Been Gone" Video Premiere

"Since You've Been Gone" is the second single off Day26's self-titled debut album. I guess the single choice is radio-friendly & I suppose the video is alright. I'm just surprised they got a second single ... they are on Bad Boy...

Coldplay's Viva La Vida Or Death & All His Friends tops this week's Billboard 200 album chart, while Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" hits #1 on the Hot 100 singles chart this week. Not too exciting...

Paris Bennett Pregnant, Engaged

Keeping with the American Idol news I suppose, here's an update on season 5's Paris Bennett. In her own words, she responds to some of the rumors that have been circling around her recently:

well I was goin to do a special blog for my fans but yes im engaged and with child a girl and her name will be Egypt... she will be here in october just before the holiday album in november is released and the sophomore album in january!

Well, there you have it, folks. The 19-year-old is pregnant, engaged, & preparing new music for us as well. Congratulations to Princess P. I'm excited to hear her new music personally, which will supposedly be jazz-influenced--her specialty imo.

BET Awards '08 Performance Highlights

Keyshia Cole - "Heaven Sent"/"Let It Go" (with Lil' Kim)

Nelly - "Stepped On My J'z" (with Ciara & JD)/"Party People" (with Fergie)

Usher "Love In This Club"

Alicia Keys - "Teenage Love Affair"/"Weak" (with SWV)/"Hold On" (with EnVogue)/"Waterfalls" (with TLC)

Chris Brown - "With You"/"Take You Down" (with Ciara)

The BET Awards show this year didn't blow me away. Keyshia Cole's performance, though I love her, was just alright; nothing special. Nelly's was pretty good, thanks to Ciara & Fergie popping up. Alicia Keys' performance was decent, though she sounded weird ... & not much better can be said for the vets she brought out--especially TLC, which saddens me because I really like them. Ciara joined Chris Brown during his performance of his song "Take You Down," which was cool, but neither of them sang (Chris didn't even pretend). Speaking of not singing, Usher opened the show lip-synching, which depresses me, as everything else he did was on-point. Oh well. There's always next year ... or the VMAs...

Jennifer Hudson "Spotlight" Video Premiere

"Spotlight" is the first single off Jennifer Hudson's self-titled debut album, which is set to be released on September 30th. For those of us who have been Jennifer Hudson fans since the days of Idol, it's been a long road, but we finally made it. Jennifer is finally getting the credit she deserves for her amazing singing voice. I enjoyed the video & Jennifer looks great. I cannot wait to get my hands on her album!

American Idol's top 2 finalists, including runner-up David Archuleta, appeared & performed on The View to promote the upcoming Idol tour. David Archuleta performed "Stand By Me" & did great. I sure do miss seeing this kid every week. Can't wait for the album!

Estelle And Kanye West Perform "American Boy" In France

Estelle finally performed her worldwide hit single "American Boy" with its featured rapper, Kanye West, recently in France. I noticed that the #1 UK hit has been rising here in the US ... we just keep jacking their talent! That's good, though, because Estelle's album Shine deserves to do just that.

Danity Kane Perform "Damaged" On Nashville Star

Check out Danity Kane performing their hit single "Damaged" off of their sophomore album Welcome To The Dollhouse ... on Nashville Star. For those who don't know, that show is basically a country version of American Idol, so why the DK girls were on it is a mystery to me.

Weekend Flashback Performance: Beyonce At The 2005 Oscars (1 of 3)

Every year at The Academy Awards, each nominated piece in the Best Original Song category is performed throughout the show, leading up to the announcement of the winner. In 2005, Beyonce performed 3 of the 5 nominated songs during the show. For this & each of the next couple weeks, I will be featuring one of her performances from that night. This week is her rendition of "Learn To Be Lonely" from "The Phantom Of The Opera." Beautiful. Absolutely stunning.

Lil' Wayne tops the Billboard 200 album chart this week with his latest Tha Carter III, which becomes the first album in 3 years to top 1 million in sales week one, so, despite my confusion, congrats to him. Also, N.E.R.D.'s latest album Seeing Sounds debuts at #7. Coldplay finally advance to the top slot of the Hot 100 singles chart this week with their song "Viva La Vida" thanks to sales from their just-released album of the same name.

UPDATE: Mariah Daily Journal has provided an interesting tidbit for this week's charts. Turns out, in its ninth week of release, Mariah Carey's latest album E=MC² has topped 1 million copies sold! A big congratulations to our favorite diva!

Lil' Mama ft. T-Pain "What It Is (Strike A Pose)" Video Premiere

"What It Is (Strike A Pose)," featuring T-Pain, is the fifth single off Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People. When I first heard the song, I didn't like it at all, but something about there being a video turned that around for me. This girl never goes wrong with the visuals, even if this is the most generic video she's done in at least a while. Still, good stuff.

Janet Jackson Developing Music Competition For MTV

MTV has enlisted Janet Jackson herself to develop a new competition for them involving aspiring singers & dancers. The show, which has already started casting, is looking for "the next Janet Jackson ... or Usher." The prize for winning, though not finalized yet, may involve Janet's upcoming tour. Oh, the things you must do when your record label treats you like crap.

Keyshia Cole Performs "Heaven Sent" On Letterman

Wow. Keyshia Cole performed the fourth single from her latest album Just Like You, "Heaven Sent," on the Late Show With David Letterman &, well, I didn't expect this! I love Keyshia (& the song), but I haven't been in love with the live versions of this song they've been doing. However, Keyshia's vocals were mad hot here & it was a nice little diddy. ;P

Cassie ft. Lil' Wayne "Official Girl": Behind-The-Scenes

Here is a first look at the video for Cassie's first single "Official Girl," which now features Lil' Wayne. It looks nice enough & I think I might be warming up to the song a bit. Cassie's sophomore effort is set for release this September.

Michelle Williams "Unexpected" Cover

Check out the cover art for Michelle Williams' upcoming album Unexpected, due August 12th. I am so *almost* sold on the cover. It's sooo perfect ... until the bottom. What's with the weird, messy effect & the random yellow font? Anyway, let's focus on what's most important: Michelle looks stunning & has chosen the perfect representation of what the album will probably be.

Solange "I Decided" Video Premiere

"I Decided" is the first single off Solange's upcoming sophomore album SoL-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams, due August 26th. After much anticipation, the arrival of the video brings something unexpected. Who knew Solange could be so innovative? It's a bit too flashy & random for my taste, however it's quite refreshing. Nice to see Solange coming into her own.

The Caffeine Patch: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa Poster

The new poster for my most anticipated movie of the year (is that weird?), "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," has surfaced. The sequel is set to hit theaters on November 7th. Yippee!

*UPDATED* Kelly Rowland Performs "Work" On Rove

Kelly Rowland performed the ever-popular Freemasons remix of her song "Work" on the Australian TV show Rove recently. It was a cool performance. I sure wish we could see more of her here in the US, but I suppose those days are gone.

New Music Tuesday: Ashanti "The Declaration"

After a 4-year absence, Ashanti has returned with The Declaration, which hits stores today. As I am currently listening to it, I can say that it's a good one. The album, which features the single "The Way That I Love You," can be purchased by clicking the cover on the widget to your right.

Katharine McPhee To Star In Thriller

Katharine McPhee has been cast in a new indie thriller entitled "The Storyteller." Production for the film is set to begin in August. The American Idol vet is set to make her acting debut in this summer's "The House Bunny." I forgot how amazingly beautiful this chick is. Anyway, I'm glad we will be seeing her; I am curious as to how that new music is coming though.

Fergie And Nelly Perform "Party People" On MTV VMAs Japan

The other performance at this year's MTV Video Music Awards Japan came from Fergie accompanying Nelly on their single "Party People." I love this song more & more every time I hear it. To quote a certain reality show judge, this was 'molten hot'! The Japanese are really makin' me jealous.

Leona Lewis "Blender" Magazine Cover

Leona Lewis is looking amazing on the cover of Blender's latest issue. Gorgeous & sexy at the same time. Love it. Her album Spirit is out now ... if you haven't heard.

Ashanti On Walmart Soundcheck

The Way That I Love You

You're Gonna Miss

In These Streets

Only U // Foolish

Ashanti finally did something to promote her new album The Declaration, dropping Tuesday, by performing on Walmart Soundcheck. She did both new & old songs, the 3 featured above being the former. I really, really enjoyed her performances. She sang live--& very well, I might add--& did her best to try & convince me to buy her new record. I was going to anyway, but I'm pretty excited for it now!

Mariah Carey Performs With SMAP In Japan

Welcome, one & all, to the Mariah Carey Comedy Hour! As Mariah continued on her Japanese promo tour, in what has got to be some kind of a joke, she performed alongside some group from Japan that go by the name of SMAP. She sang 2 songs--& fairly well I might add: her classic "Hero" & her latest #1 "Touch My Body." However, the Japanese dudes sounded like something out of a horrible American Idol audition. Feel free to judge for yourself.

Leona Lewis Performs "Better In Time" On Schlag Den Raab

Arguably today's biggest international star, Leona Lewis performed "Better In Time," what is generally her current single in most of the world, overseas recently. Is it weird that this girl is still taking over the charts with her album Spirit & yet I feel I haven't seen her in a while? Nevertheless, she did a great job & I thought this was a cool performance.

The Pussycat Dolls Perform "When I Grow Up" On The MTV Movie Awards

The Pussycat Dolls performed their first single "When I Grow Up" at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards this evening & it was awesome. Go Nicole!

Mariah Carey On Music Station

During her visit to Japan, Mariah Carey stopped by the television show Music Station to do an interview & perform her #1 hit "Touch My Body." The interview isn't exactly entertaining because all the questions are in Japanese & only Mariah's answers are in English (a translator gets them the message), but I rather enjoyed her performance. She's no Janet with dance moves or anything, but it's not like Mariah needs them. Mariah's new #1 album E=MC², which is still in the top 10, is out now!

Weekend Flashback Performance: Christina Aguilera At The 2004 MTV VMAs

Four years ago, Christina Aguilera began to tease us with a taste of what was to come. She recorded a duet with rapper Nelly entitled "Tilt Ya Head Back" that had a throwback vibe that would go on to inspire her next studio album Back To Basics. When Nelly released the song as a single, the pair performed it on the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards & brought down the house. Christina's brilliant skills as a performer were brought to the forefront that night in this excellent performance.
