Fefe Dobson "Can't Breathe" Video Premiere

"Can't Breathe" is the latest single off Fefe Dobson's new album Joy. I'm really glad she got to shoot a video for this song--a really effective one too! We've been missing these kinds of songs in music today.

Album Review: Fefe Dobson "Joy"

It's only taken poor Fefe Dobson seven years to release a follow-up to her self-titled debut. After getting dropped from her label Island Def Jam & having her sophomore album Sunday Love (which was set to include my favorite song by her to date, "Don't Let It Go To Your Head", which has since been released by Jordin Sparks) shelved, Fefe was getting her songs featured on TV left & right, resulting in her former label taking notice, re-signing her, & finally releasing a second album from the pop-rocker. Joy shows that Fefe has done a considerable amount of growing since 2003 & deserves at least as much, if not more, success than she had back then.

1. "Ghost": This infectious single had hit written all over it & the label should've made it happen! 5/5

2. "Thanks For Nothing": A fun uptempo... ya! 4.5/5

3. "Stuttering": One of my favorite writers, Claude Kelly, did his thing with this one. Catchy as it is, everyone would have it stuck in their heads... if L.A. would just have her perform it somewhere! 5/5

4. "Can't Breathe": This epic ballad is so good, it sounds like a Ryan Tedder production. I also have to point out that there are times here when Fefe sounds just like her fellow Canadian Avril Lavigne--& that's a very good thing! 5/5

5. "You B****": Uptempos with attitude = the best kind. 4.5/5

6. "Didn't See You Coming": Unfortunately, the streak ends here. This stripped-down track falls pretty flat. 2/5

7. "Watch Me Move": This was my first taste of Joy & it sure had me take notice! It may be short--& ancient at this point--but that's what the repeat button's for..! 5/5

8. "I Want You": Though not horrible, I'm not a big fan of this one. What can I say? Just not my cup of tea. 2.5/5

9. "I'm A Lady": This track has a retro vibe to it, which isn't my favorite, but I don't mind it in small doses. 3.5/5

10. "In Your Touch": Fefe slows it down with another retro track here, but one retro song was about enough for me. It's really noisy too. 2/5

11. "Set Me Free": There's a little something endearing about this slow jam... but not much. 2.5/5

12. "Joy": Cute. 3.5/5

While Joy is pretty hit-&-miss, Fefe's a talented gal & there are some hits on here just waiting to be noticed! Not to mention that even better than some of the tracks on the album are the bonus tracks from the iTunes deluxe edition "I Made Out With Your Boyfriend" & "Johnny Cash". If you're a fan of Avril Lavigne's better work or you just want pop music with the substance of rock, try Fefe Dobson on for size!

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

New Music Tuesday

It's getting closer to Christmas & that means even bigger New Music Tuesdays! First up, we have Jazmine Sullivan, who releases her sophomore album Love Me Back, which features the singles "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)" & "10 Seconds", today. I'm not sure when I'll have time to review it, so in the meantime, I'm just gonna tell you that, December aside, Love Me Back is the best album of the year! Also dropping today (finally) is Fefe Dobson's second release Joy. (It's not really her sophomore album because that would be the unreleased Sunday Love, which featured the standouts "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" & "As A Blonde", both of which have since been recorded by other artists.) Joy includes the singles "I Want You", "Watch Me Move", "Ghost", & "Stuttering", the latter three of which I adore. Finally, we have the DVD/CD release of Beyonce's "I Am... World Tour", which is a definite must-have. Purchase links are provided below as well as via the widget on your right.

Fefe Dobson "Joy" Tracklisting

Keep those fingers crossed, but its a good sign for Fefe Dobson's prospects of finally getting a second album out in the form of Joy (November 30th) that its final tracklisting has surfaced:

1. Ghost
2. Thanks For Nothing
3. Stuttering
4. Can't Breathe
5. You B****
6. Didn't See You Coming
7. Watch Me Move
8. I Want You
9. I'm A Lady
10. In Your Touch
11. Set Me Free
12. Joy

For those curious, although they did switch the sequence up a bit, the only track missing from here that was on the original tracklisting (& got replaced by "Stuttering") is called "Let's Go (Turn It Up)" (Walmart still has the old one up if you wanna see it). Interesting title, although they probably made the right decision because Fefe's latest single has 'hit' written all over it! I'm tellin' ya: Fefe's your favorite singer you've never known.

Fefe Dobson "Stuttering" Video Premiere

"Stuttering" is the latest single off Fefe Dobson's upcoming second album Joy (November 30th). Nice video for a very nice song. I hope her album finally comes out so she can do a little promo & get this song some recognition!

Fefe Dobson "Ghost" Video Premiere

"Ghost" is the new single lifted from Fefe Dobson's forthcoming album Joy, which apparently doesn't come out until October 5th. I think IDJ is doing a crappy job with Fefe once again (Heck, she got her music featured all OVER the place--without them), but the video is progress & I really like this song.

New Fefe Dobson Promo Pics

Now that Fefe Dobson has been re-signed to Island Def Jam, she has a shiny new set of promotional photos to go along with her upcoming album Joy (June 15th). I'm happy for Fefe & I'm looking forward to Joy, but it's just a shame that they let her go & shelved Sunday Love, only to re-sign her, because "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" & "As A Blonde" are my jams! At least Jordin Sparks got "DLIGTYH"... "As A Blonde" on the other hand...

Fefe Dobson "Joy" Cover

Fefe Dobson's feet are front & center on the cover art for her upcoming album Joy (June 15th). Normally I would say that you should only not feature your face on your album cover if your name is enough to carry you, but I doubt people generally know her face any better than they do her name, so this interesting cover should draw enough attention!

*UPDATED* Fefe Dobson "I Want You" & "Watch Me Move" Video Premieres

"I Want You"

"Watch Me Move"

"I Want You" & "Watch Me Move" are the lead singles off Fefe Dobson's upcoming indie debut Joy. Now, I've loved "Watch Me Move" for some time now, but if it's as tempting to you as it was to me to watch that video first, don't. The two videos fit together in this order as a mix called "I Want You 2 Watch Me Move." A little weird, considering the difference in sound between the pair, I know, but it kinda works. It makes no actual sense why I like this girl because her sound is so not what I normally listen to, but I have liked her material from all the way back to "Take Me Away" to "This Is My Life" &, of course, "Don't Let It Go To Your Head." What can I say? She's irresistibly cool!

UPDATE: Here's some making-of footage--
