The Caffeine Patch: Madagascar & Monsters Vs. Aliens Holiday Specials To Air

This fall on NBC, two new half-hour holiday specials from Dreamworks Animation will air. First, the Halloween-themed "Monsters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space" will hit your TV screens on Wednesday, October 28th, @ 8/7c. Following on Tuesday, November 17th, also @ 8/7c, will be "Merry Madagascar." There hasn't been any indication before that a "Madagascar" Christmas special (besides the Madagascar penguins' "A Christmas Caper" short from a few years back) was in the works, so I'm stoked about that! This is also looking to become a tradition, with "Shrek" & "Kung Fu Panda" (respectively) specials in the works for next year. Yay!

The Caffeine Patch: Dreamworks Animation Update

Dreamworks Animation has a number of (mostly) exciting special TV projects in the works. Their latest hit film "Monsters Vs. Aliens" will be the basis for a new Halloween special "Monsters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space" to air on NBC in October. Next year, Shrek will be the center of the Halloween special "Scared Shrekless," followed by a "Kung Fu Panda" holiday special, both of which will air on NBC as well. In the solely-for-profit category, we have the news that Nickelodeon, after the success of the quite funny "The Penguins Of Madagascar" series, has ordered "Kung Fu Panda: The Series" as well as a pilot for a "Monsters Vs. Aliens" series. While I find it unnecessary to have a TV show about a character, such as Po, who is already the focus of what will become a series of movies, I'm all for more TV specials in the vain of "Shrek The Halls." Good stuff.

*UPDATED* The Caffeine Patch: Super Bowl XLIII Commercial Highlights

Monsters Vs. Aliens (3D)

Up

If the Super Bowl is reliable for anything, it's entertaining movie ads. "Monsters Vs. Aliens" went all out with their 3D trailer, which was followed by the also-3D SoBe commercial that featured characters from the film. (Feel free to disregard the Chuck part at the end of the top video.) Disney/Pixar provided us with a short new scene from "Up," which can be seen at the end of the trailer. I enjoyed both ads, & though the 3D didn't work out all too well, they still gave it a nice try. "Monsters Vs. Aliens" comes out March 27th, while "Up" hits theaters on May 29th.

UPDATE: Available for viewing HERE is "Animal Calling," the first UPisode in the "Adventures With Carl & Russell" series, which is based on "Up." Just click on 'videos' at the bottom & enjoy!

The Caffeine Patch: Monsters Vs. Aliens Trailer

With "Kung Fu Panda" being released on DVD & "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" hitting theaters both in the past week, Dreamworks Animation is on a roll & ready to fill us in on their next project. "Monsters Vs. Aliens" is the title of their upcoming movie, which will hit theaters on March 27th of 2009. The film, which will be released in 3D, looks interesting to say the least, but I will definitely be checking it out.
