Lil' Mama Update

Infamous New Yorker Lil' Mama has recorded a collaboration with West Coaster Snoop Dogg called "NY NY LA LA" to be released in the coming weeks. This is in addition to her recently released track "On & On & On", but neither are necessarily lifted off her sophomore album because she currently has no plans to release another album, as she is no longer with Jive Records. Lil' Mama is talented, but not all that fun to be a fan of anymore...

Lil' Mama ft. Mishon "Dough Boy" Video Premiere

Lil' Mama has premiered this new Mishon-assisted video for "Dough Boy". I don't know if it's the first single off a new album or what, but she surprisingly delivers! Lil' Mama is sooo my guilty pleasure lol.

Lil' Mama ft. Peter Toh "Truly In Love" Video Premiere

"Truly In Love," featuring Peter Toh, is the latest single off Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People. It shocks me that after lackluster sales, Jive is still pushing this album. I really can't complain though, as it is a rare gift. Lil' Mama is a talented gal & it shows in this cool new video, which features cameos from Fanny Pak (of America's Best Dance Crew fame) & Mark Kanemura (from So You Think You Can Dance). The song probably wouldn't have been my choice for a single (see: "Swim"), but it definitely could've done without the featured artist.

Mariah Carey Performs "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" On The 2008 Teen Choice Awards

Mariah Carey performed the same "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"/"Touch My Body" remix-of-sorts as she has been recently at this year's Teen Choice Awards. It was a fun, lively performance from MC. I really like the medley they've put together for these performances & I really hope they release a version of it to download. Both songs are off Mariah's latest album E=MC².

In related news, congratulations to David Archuleta (Choice Most Fanatic Fans), Jordin Sparks (Choice Hook-Up for "No Air" with Chris Brown), American Idol (Choice TV Reality Music Competition), Lil' Mama (Choice Music Rap/Hip-Hop Track for "Shawty Get Loose" with T-Pain & Chris Brown), & Carrie Underwood (Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon Female) for their respective wins at the ceremony. (Trust me: if you read this blog, those are all the winners you care about. lol)

Lil' Mama Performs "A Milli" On 106 And Park

Lil' Mama performed her freestyle version of Lil' Wayne's "A Milli" recently on BET's 106 & Park. Not just because she is the Lil' I prefer, Mama killed it. Her album VYP: Voice Of The Young People is in stores now & I recommend picking it up!

Lil' Mama ft. T-Pain "What It Is (Strike A Pose)" Video Premiere

"What It Is (Strike A Pose)," featuring T-Pain, is the fifth single off Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People. When I first heard the song, I didn't like it at all, but something about there being a video turned that around for me. This girl never goes wrong with the visuals, even if this is the most generic video she's done in at least a while. Still, good stuff.

Billboard Update

^This week's #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart
This week's #1 single on the Hot 100 chart^

See full charts HERE.

The faint of heart, avert your eyes! I apologize for forcing you all to face the cover of it, but Madonna's Hard Candy does debut atop the Billboard 200 album chart this week. However, poor Madge didn't even come close to Mariah's first-week total, which I find interesting for an album with, from what I've heard, apparently not a single problem ... except for the artist who recorded it. Just saying ... that's what happens when you aren't true to yourself. Anywho, last week's overall album sales weren't anything to cheer about. Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People came in at #25 (not a misprint...) week one with a whopping 19,000 (...nor is this) copies sold. Note to record companies: does this, once & for all, show you that push-backs are not the way to go & to release the album while the buzz is still hot? Probably the saddest, yet least unexpected, news comes in the form of Estelle's masterpiece Shine debuting at #38. Why don't Americans know what good music is?! Also, Sarah McLachlan's compilation album Rarities, B-Sides, & Other Stuff 2 started off at #44. ... On the Hot 100 singles chart, Leona Lewis tops the chart for a second straight (& fourth non-consecutive) week with "Bleeding Love". No stoppin' this British import!

Lil' Mama Performs "L.I.F.E." On Jimmy Kimmel

Lil' Mama recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform her latest single "L.I.F.E." off her debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People, which, despite spawning 2 top 10 hits, is stalling on the charts ... now that it's finally been released. I like the single & its accompanying video, but I didn't love this performance. Mama should definitely stick to rapping IMO.

Lil' Mama "L.I.F.E." Video Premiere

"L.I.F.E." is the latest single off Lil' Mama's debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People, which finally hit stores this week. Wow, what a video. Lil' Mama gets very, very real in this one. I like it.

While I Was Away... (Part 3)

Lil' Mama "VYP: Voice Of The Young People" Cover

Check out the, if nothing else, very appropriate cover for Lil' Mama's long-awaited debut album VYP: Voice Of The Young People, which is due on April 29th. It's interesting the path Lil' Mama has followed thus far, but she actually may have convinced me to pick this up, as she is very talented at what she does & has been able to put out some pretty appealing joints. I do like the shot, too.

Lil' Mama ft. Chris Brown And T-Pain "Shawty Get Loose" Video Premiere

"Shawty Get Loose," featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain, is Lil' Mama's 3rd single from her to-be-released debut album Voice Of The Young People. I like the song and the video is hot. I had no idea her label was supporting her ($$$-wise) so much, considering how they didn't release her album following the success if "Lip Gloss." She sure is becoming quite the video queen though, I must say. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of Chris Brown, seeing as how he uses more voice-correcting effects than anyone (other than T-Pain, actually), so I have to wonder what was up with those ...facial expressions?
