At this year's Nobel Peace Prize concert, Janelle Monae performed her two singles off The ArchAndroid, covered the Jackson 5, & joined the event's other performers to cover Curtis Mayfield for the grand finale. Janelle always brings the energy!
There's no telling when Estelle's third studio album All Of Me will finally arrive, but when it does, chances are we'll have all of the production credits pieced together! The most exciting recent revelation is that the album will feature a collaboration with Janelle Monae entitled "Do My Thing" that Ne-Yo wrote. In addition, Akon wrote the Jerry Wonder-produced "Thank You". Plus, we now know that the Common-assisted track "Victorious" was produced by No I.D. There seems to be a decent amount of buzz surrouding Estelle's latest single "Break My Heart" if Twitter is any indication, but apparently not even enough for an approximate album release date.
Cold War, Tightrope, & Come Alive (The War Of The Roses)
Beyonce headlined & Janelle Monae performed at Glastonbury this past weekend across the pond. I haven't watched all of their sets yet & I'll probably update my comments once I do, but I will say that Beyonce is a BEAST!! "The Beautiful Ones" + "Why Don't You Love Me" + "1+1" = EPIC!!!
"Be Still", featuring Janelle Monae, is the latest single off Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty album. The amount of screen time Janelle gets, you almost wouldn't think this was his song! That's the way I like it. :)
"Bodies" is a track lifted from Cee Lo Green's latest album The Lady Killer. See what fate Janelle Monae has in store for Cee Lo in this ..different.. video!
Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, & Others Tribute Aretha Franklin
Rihanna & Drake "What's My Name?"
Janelle Monae, B.o.B, & Bruno Mars - Medley
Usher, Justin Bieber, & Jaden Smith - Medley
Rihanna, Eminem, Dr. Dre, & Skylar Grey - Medley
Well, the 2011 Grammys started off strong with a tribute to Aretha Franklin that featured incredible vocal showings from Christina Aguilera & Jennifer Hudson as well as Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, & Florence Welch... but it was all downhill from there. Rihanna performed twice: First kicking off "Love The Way You Lie" before Eminem took off with his medley, then hitting the stage later alongside Drake with her own "What's My Name?". Janelle Monae (who should've won!) capped off a newcomers medley with the awesome "Cold War". Aaand Usher showed the Fetus how it's done via (OMG!) "OMG" before a dance number between the two, which was cute... There wasn't a single award given out on-air that I gave a flying flip about, but you can check out the pre-telecast winners below/all of 'em HERE. Congrats Fanny on your first win!
Usher: Best Contemporary R&B Album (Raymond Vs. Raymond), Best Male R&B Vocal Performance ("There Goes My Baby")
Fantasia: Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Bittersweet")
Pink, India.Arie: Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals ("Imagine" with Herbie Hancock, Seal, Konono No 1, Jeff Beck, & Oumou Sangare)
Rihanna: Best Dance Recording ("Only Girl (In The World)")
Ya, don't get too excited 'til you hear all the details. Double nominee Usher will be joining his protege Justin Bieber & Jaden Smith on the Grammy stage for what will no doubt be a mindblowing, life-changing presentation (please note the sarcasm). Also on the night, Janelle Monae, a double nominee as well, will share the stage with the equally annoying Bruno Mars & B.o.B. Well, I just don't think I'll be able to wait until February 13th (8/7c, CBS) to see this...
The nominations for the 2011 Grammys have been announced & with Rihanna clutching six by riding Eminem's coattails, I'm less than impressed. Fantasia & Alicia Keys scored three, while Monica, Usher, Janelle Monae, & Beyonce nabbed two. All of the nominees can be seen HERE... seek & ye shall find several worthy artists who managed to receive a single nod. It seems like to me that a long time ago, the Grammys actually sought out the best & brightest in the music industry to award them, rather than just selling out & rewarding the most successful artists. -_- Congrats to Fantasia, Monica, & the like though! The 2011 Grammys air Sunday, February 13th, @ 8/7c on CBS.
Alicia Keys has digitally died to help raise money through Buy Life, a part of Keep A Child Alive, for World AIDS Day (December 1st). She has been joined by the likes of Usher, Janelle Monae, & Jennifer Hudson, all of whom have filmed their 'last tweet & testament' to raise awareness of the campaign, which you can watch by clicking their respective names. They won't tweet again (OH NO! lol) until $1 million is raised. It kinda rubs me the wrong way when celebrities who could shell out a milli like it's nothing want us poor working folk to pay up instead... but I suppose it's all for a good cause regardless. If you'd like to make a donation/buy their digital lives back, HERE is the place to do it.
I haven't watched the 2010 Soul Train Awards yet, although I plan to via my DVR as soon as I have the time, but I can already tell you that the highlight of the evening was Jazmine Sullivan's medley of "10 Seconds" & "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)", which she brought out Doug E. Fresh (whom I believe she sampled on "Holding You Down") for. I could listen to her sing live all day! Another impressive vocal showing came from Keyshia Cole, who participated in a tribute to Ron Isley. (Note: I don't think the above video is the whole tribute--I stopped watching when Keyshia was done--but it's the only portion of it I could find in HQ anyway.) As for the winners, my favorite would have to be Ciara's "Ride" for Best Dance Performance! Other include Melanie Fiona for Best New Artist, Usher for Best Male R&B/Soul Artist (tied with Trey Songz...a mess) & Album Of The Year (Raymond Vs. Raymond), Rihanna & Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" for Best Hip-Hop Song Of The Year, Alicia Keys for Best Female R&B/Soul Artist (shoulda been Monica or Fantasia...) & Record Of The Year for "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)", & Janelle Monae, who won the Centric Award. View all the winners HERE.
Janelle Monae performed "Sincerely, Jane", "Dance Or Die", & "Tightrope" during a showcase on Lay It Down With Cee Lo Green. I didn't realize this is how Cee Lo's show was set up! I thoroughly enjoyed the program, I just wish we could've gotten the entirety of that "Say You'll Go"! Janelle's debut album The ArchAndroid is out now.
Janelle Monae has recorded "The Shape Of Things To Come" for the Shape What's To Come campaign from Levi's. Listen below:
One way or another, you should be able to download the song for FREE as well as find out more information about SWTC HERE. The song, well, sounds like Janelle!
In addition to Leona Lewis, Estelle & Janelle Monae both grace the "For Colored Girls" soundtrack, which hits stores Tuesday. Estelle sings the chill "All Day Long (Blue Skies)":
Meanwhile, Janelle Monae kicks it up a notch on "Without A Fight":
Usher & new mom Alicia Keys have something (else) to celebrate because they lead the nominations for the 2010 Soul Train Awards with four each. Several worthy artists, including Nicki Minaj, Dondria, Monica, Fantasia, Rihanna, & Janelle Monae, earned a pair. Keyshia Cole as well as Janelle Monae will be performing at this year's event, which goes down on Sunday, November 28th @ 9/8c on BET. Check out the rest of the rather exciting nominees HERE.
Janelle Monae took her movement international with a performance of the track "Faster" off her fabulous album The ArchAndroid on Later With Jools Holland. Her being under the weather may have contributed a bit to the monotone vocals unfortunately, but the ever-enthusiastic Monae is never one to disappoint!
Janelle Monae gave her fiiierce (sorry, I watched Top Model earlier...) performance of "Tightrope" off her debut album The ArchAndroid on the Dancing With The Stars results show this week. What awesome exposure!
Janelle Monae performed "Cold War" off her debut album The ArchAndroid at a taping for Last Call With Carson Daly. I just wish she got into her performances.
Janelle Monae killed it performing "Tightrope" off The ArchAndroid on this week's So You Think You Can Dance results show. Appropriate, but I wonder when we'll see a "Cold War" performance...
