Paula Abdul - Medley

VH1 Divas returned tonight & I thought the show was great! Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, & Leona Lewis were all featured performers & sang duets with their idols (ironic word, eh?), while host Paula Abdul opened the show with a medley of her hits & surprise guest India.Arie performed with Adele. All the girls sang their hearts out & did an incredible job! As for my favs, Jennifer did her thang up there with Stevie & I loved hearing Jordin sing "Broken Wing" again & with the original artist! Also, Kelly rocked the house when she closed the show with Melissa & Leona's "Happy" really is growing on me. I don't particularly care for Adele, but she sounded great with India.Arie, who also did an excellent job as usual. Personally, I think Paula did a great job as host, embracing her insane side & all. Legends aside, the lineup this year was darn near perfect (that is, of the artists I'm posting) & I hope VH1 brings it back next year!

VH1 Divas Update

As you can see in this newly released promo poster, Jennifer Hudson & Jordin Sparks were both recently added to the VH1 Divas lineup. Special guest performers on the Paula Abdul-hosted program will be Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Cyndi Lauper, & Melissa Etheridge, while Toni Braxton will also be there as one of the many presenters. Considering they have now doubled my reasons to watch, I'm getting rather excited about this show. I realize that it may be Mariah/Whitney/Celine-less, but with the reintroduction of the Divas event, VH1 is trying to present the new generation of chicks at the top of their game & I can respect that, especially because there are so many talented young women out there now who deserve recognition (& they're doing a pretty good job of it--4 out of 6 ain't bad). VH1 Divas will air Thursday, September 17th, @ 9/8c.

Chrisette Michele's Epiphany debuts at the top of this week's Billboard 200 album chart. I'm happy for her. Sadly, Ciara only sold 81,000 copies (a mere 2,000 away from the #1 spot though) of her third album Fantasy Ride, which came in at #3. Also, Elliott Yamin's sophomore effort Fight For Love started off at #26, which I think isn't too shabby, considering he has had -0- promotion. Over on the Hot 100 singles chart, The Black-Eyed Peas continue to "Boom Boom Pow" their competition & stay at the top spot. Daughtry had their best debut to date as well as the chart's highest this week with "No Surprise" after it sold 106,000 copies following their performance of the song on American Idol last week. Also new this week are Sean Kingston's "Fire Burning" at #29 & Paula Abdul's "I'm Just Here For The Music" at #87.

*UPDATED* Idol Review: Top 4

The "rock god" Adam Lambert dished it out this week with his performance of "Whole Lotta Love" & made me instantly fall in love with a genre that I despise. Kris Allen didn't do so bad himself. YAY KRIS! Err... anyway, they participated in duets as well, but not with eachother unfortunately, so here's Adam's with Allison & Kris' with Danny. The two of them sounded good on their parts of the duets, but I am not a fan of the idea because contestants that are being pitted against one another should not perform together on a performance (AKA voting) night. So, did Old Yeller ever live up to his (nick)name this week! Excruciating. I wanted him to go home so badly that it almost took away from Allison Iraheta finally getting the boot ... I said almost. Other highlights from the results show (see: below) include performances from Paula Abdul (The personification of irony. But, hey, what can I say? Her new music is my guilty pleasure!), No Doubt (Uh, Gwen, love ya, but that was a mess.), & Daughtry. Guess there's nothing left to say except: Put The Go In Gokey!

Paula Abdul "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" Video Premiere

"Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" is actually the first single off Randy Jackson's new album Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1, which features several guests, one of which is obviously his fellow Idol judge Paula Abdul. I like the song, even though I was not expecting to, and the video is pretty good imo. It's kinda hard to judge from these crappy little versions we have to watch on the internet, but I wasn't let down (probably because, again, I wasn't expecting much).

Paula Abdul Performs "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" On Super Bowl Pre-Show

Whether this is going to be the official music video or not (because it was rumored that her Super Bowl comeback was the video for "DLTNT," then just a performance), I quite enjoyed Paula Abdul's return to the music scene in this way! I've never been a fan, as she was, I guess, a little before my time honestly, but I liked this song when it leaked, so she caught my attention. Doin' it big!

Mariah, Others Featured On Randy Jackson's Upcoming Debut Solo Album

Randy Jackson, currently known as an American Idol judge, will be releasing his first solo album, Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1, on March 11th. The first single features fellow Idol judge Paula Abdul singing for the first time in many years on "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow," the video for which is said to be premiering during the Super Bowl. The album itself also features numerous guests, including Mariah Carey, amongst others, on "I Understand" and both Katharine McPhee and Elliott Yamin (both season 5 Idol finalists) on "Real Love." I, personally, can't wait to hear both of the latter songs, while I was impressed by Paula(-bot) on the recently leaked first single. This is perfect timing, too, as interest is not only heightening for new Mariah material, as well as information on previous Idol finalists, but also the show (and its judges!) itself.
