Album Review: Britney Spears "Circus (Deluxe Edition)"

There's no need to dwell on the past because Britney is back! The "queen of pop," as is stated during her new album Circus, has cleaned up her act & returned to what she does best: entertaining. Britney Spears made sure we were aware of her comeback with the release of first single "Womanizer," a modern twist on the exciting pop music she has always been known for. Being the music video queen that she is, Britney brought us another vibrant one for "Womanizer." Now, promotion has been kicked into gear as the release of Circus approaches, but everyone wants to know if the album will live up to the expectations set by the quality of her previous work.

Circus begins with "Womanizer," which is followed by the second single "Circus," a worthy title track that will surely cement Britney's place on top once again. Despite the lack of any real slow material on her last album Blackout, she wastes no time here with "Out From Under." I rather enjoyed the song because it had Britney sounding better than I've heard in a long time. "Kill The Lights," a cool track that calls out the paparazzi, has her displaying a slicker-than-usual sound, while the uptempo "Shattered Glass" sounds like something straight from Britney circa 2004.

One of the highlights of the album can be found in "If You Seek Amy," which I like not only for its *creative* lyrics, but also because it has just the sound & all the sass that we love about Britney. What I did not expect to find on Circus was a song like "Unusual You," which gives us a more vulnerable side of Britney to love. "Blur" is similar to the track it follows, but lacks that extra special something. Another song I can't really get into is the funky "Mmm Papi." No worries, however, because she redeems herself with "Mannequin," which could give her just the dance number she needs.

The main album begins to wrap up with "Lace & Leather," the better funky track on Circus. What I can't quite figure out is why they placed this song right before the album's closer "My Baby" because you can't help but feel awkward listening to a sweet dedication to her young children directly after you've heard Britney discuss her favorite *pleasurable* activities. A slightly altered version of Blackout's "Radar" appears here as a bonus track & won't really change your original opinion of the song, but since I liked it then, I like it now. If you purchase the deluxe edition of Circus, you will receive the two tracks "Rock Me In" & "Phonography." While the former uptempo could easily replace a few of the regular album cuts, the latter is a bit too explicit (for a mom) & weird for my taste.

I would have to say that Circus is a worthy comeback album for Britney. What we all know & love about her is present &, in parts, even improved. Personally, I do prefer Blackout between the two, but that is only because the urban sound appeals more to me. Nonetheless, Circus, though not perfect, has its advantages & should serve Britney well for the performing she plans to do in support of the project. In the end, Britney Spears is back ... & it feels so good.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Weekend Flashback Performance: Beyonce At The 2003 MTV VMAs

I find it hard to believe that it's already been five years since Beyonce struck it out on her own with Dangerously In Love. Still, who could forget her debut solo single "Crazy In Love" & her performance of both it & "Baby Boy" at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. Beyonce herself later questioned why she decided to lower herself upside down from the ceiling, but it sure does make for one hot entrance. And isn't it nice to see that mad fly "Crazy In Love" dance routine again? Beyonce made sure we knew she was here to stay ... & she sure is.

Britney Spears Performs "Womanizer" On The X Factor

Britney Spears rocked the X Factor stage moments ago with yet another performance of "Womanizer," the first single off her new album Circus (December 2nd). With a few less theatrics than the previous pair of performances, Britney was able to display her abilities as a performer a bit better this time & show the world that Britney's back. Job well done, Brit!

Preview Melinda Doolittle's "Coming Back To You"

The cover art for Melinda Doolittle's new single "It's Your Love" is featured to the left. "It's Your Love" serves as the first single off Melinda's forthcoming debut album Coming Back To You (February 3rd). Snippets of each track on the album can be heard HERE. I'll save my judgement for the entire album, but it's sounding good so far.

New Beyonce "Cadillac Records" Clip

Check out this clip of Beyonce singing as Etta James in the upcoming film "Cadillac Records," which opens in theaters on December 5th. Beyonce is at the top of her game with both the music and acting sides of her performance here, so this is one movie that I've gotta see.

Britney Spears Performs "Womanizer" On Star Academy

Today, Britney Spears made her way to France to perform "Womanizer" again on Star Academy. She seemed even more confident than yesterday, so that's excellent. Britney's new album Circus drops December 2nd.

CNN Heroes Performances

Christina Aguilera "Beautiful"

Alicia Keys "Superwoman"

Christina Aguilera & Alicia Keys performed on the recent CNN Heroes special. Christina belted out her hit "Beautiful," while Alicia sang "Superwoman." Both ladies did amazingly well.

More 2008 Bambi Award Performances

Pink "Sober"

Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love"

Britney Spears wasn't the only performer at the 2008 Bambi Awards. Pink performed her new single "Sober," while Leona Lewis sang "Bleeding Love." They both did a great job. After her performance, Leona received the Shooting Star award for which she gave an acceptance speech, but thanks to the translator, you can't hear what she says, so you can skip that part of the clip.

Ashanti Performs "Shine" On Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Ashanti also appeared on this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where she performed the song "Shine" off her latest album The Declaration. Good to see her!

David Archuleta On AOL Sessions

"You Can"

"A Little Too Not Over You"

"Touch My Hand"

"My Hands"

David Archuleta performed five selections from his self-titled debut album, which is out now, on AOL Sessions. This is the most incredible set of performances I've ever seen. Lord have mercy. Everybody, watch "You Can" & if that doesn't get you, you're a robot. I loved every single one of these & I would go as far as to say that David sang these songs better live than on the CD. Who knew you could improve on perfection?!

Craig David On Radio Contact

"7 Days"

Craig David recently did a showcase for Radio Contact in Belgium where he performed an acoustic version of his new song "Insomnia" & his hit "7 Days" in addition to participating in an interview to promote his recently release greatest hits album. Craig is such a talent, so it's a real treat to hear him singing live acoustically. The interview has Craig discussing his rather ambitious goals for his fifth studio album.

Billboard Update

^This week's #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart
This week's #1 single on the Hot 100 chart^

See full charts HERE.

Beyonce debuted 'fiercely' atop the Billboard 200 album chart this week with her third album I Am... Sasha Fierce after selling a whopping 482,000 copies. With all the promotion she's been doing this week, Bee will go platinum in no time, so congrats to her. Unfortunately, Shontelle debuted at a ridiculously low #115 with her new album Shontelligence. She definitely deserves better. T.I. continues his reign in the #1 spot of the Hot 100 singles chart this week with the Rihanna-assisted "Live Your Life." Giving them a run for their money, however, is Beyonce because her song "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" shoots 28-2 after selling 204,000 copies in its first week available as a digital single. This means that the hottest chick in the game has now out-peaked herself, as "If I Were A Boy" currently sits at its peak of #3.

Britney Spears Performs "Womanizer" On The 2008 Bambi Awards

In her first performance of "Womanizer" period & first since ... in quite some time, Britney Spears lit up the stage (literally) at the 2008 Bambi Awards in Germany moments ago. Britney looked great, danced well, & did an awesome job! She also picked up the award for Best International Popstar at the ceremony. Congrats Brit!

David Archuleta Performs "Crush" On Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

A bundled up David Archuleta performed his single "Crush" during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this morning. Yay for facing the freezing cold to promote your album worldwide! Speaking of which... David's self-titled debut album is out now & makes a great gift this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Britney Spears: The Making Of "Circus"

Check out this 10-minute clip of Britney Spears discussing her upcoming album Circus (December 2nd). This is the feature that will be included on the DVD of the deluxe edition of Circus. It features all sorts of behind-the-scenes footage & is a really interesting watch. Three cheers for Britney! (Cheesy ... I know.)

*UPDATED* Beyonce Performs On Tyra

Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

If I Were A Boy

Beyonce performed her two singles "If I Were A Boy" & "Single Ladies" from the newly released album I Am... Sasha Fierce on The Tyra Banks Show. Joining Beyonce during "Single Ladies" this time were two male dancers! They put it down though. No matter how many times I've posted these two songs recently, they are both worth the watch every time. I'm assuming there was an interview, so if it surfaces, I'll post.

UPDATE: Here's the interview--

Mariah Carey Appears On Ellen

Mariah Carey was a guest on today's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Technically there to promote her latest fragrance "Luscious Pink," MC addressed all the rumors in quite an interesting way. Make sure to pick up a few copies of E=MC² & give it to all your friends this Christmas!

Beyonce Performs On Today

"Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

"If I Were A Boy" + Short Interview

"Crazy In Love"

"At Last"

Beyonce took over the Today show this morning to perform a set of songs to promote her new album I Am... Sasha Fierce, which is available now. After a royal entrance, Beyonce performed her hit "Crazy In Love" along with the fabulous "Single Ladies," "If I Were A Boy," & "At Last," which will be featured in her new movie "Cadillac Records," which hits theaters on December 5th. As she is such an incredible talent, I must say it just feels really good to have Beyonce in the game right now.

Alicia Keys Performs "I Need You" On Dancing With The Stars

Alicia Keys performed As I Am album track "I Need You" during the Dancing With The Stars finale last night. Look who's got moves now! I really need to give As I Am another listen because all these songs Alicia's been performing that were never singles are really hot.

New Beyonce "Samantha Thavasa" Ad

Check out Beyonce's new ad for Samantha Thavasa, a Japanese handbag designer. It's nice, but let's just say Jay-Z ain't got nothin' to worry about.

Kanye West On Late Night

Kanye West put in an appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien to promote his new album 808s & Heartbreak (out now). He performed his second single "Heartless" & did an interview. "Heartless" is one of my favorite cuts from Kanye's new album.

India.Arie "Testimony: Vol. 2" Update

India.Arie is gearing up to release her long-awaited new album Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics on February 10th. Preceding the release will be first single "Chocolate High." The Musiq Soulchild-assisted track can be heard HERE. I love the new song! I adore the first Testimony volume she released a few years back, so I can't wait to finally get my hands on the follow-up.

Britney Spears "Circus" Video Preview

Check out this 30-second clip of Britney Spears' video for "Circus," the second single off her upcoming album of the same name (December 2nd). This looks HOT. Can't wait to see it in full.

Pink "Sober" Video Premiere

"Sober" is the second single off Pink's recently released album Funhouse. Words escape me when it comes to this video. I love it, yet I think it's rather strange. It is really good though.

*UPDATED* Beyonce On Ellen

"Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

"Flaws & All"

Beyonce spent the day on The Ellen DeGeneres Show by performing both "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," which is off Beyonce's newly released album I Am... Sasha Fierce, & "Flaws & All," an Ellen favorite, & doing an interview. Despite the awful quality of the video, Beyonce unsurprisingly did incredibly well with "Single Ladies" once again & sounded flawless (no pun intended?!) on "Flaws & All." The interview is great as well.

UPDATE: Check out Beyonce's performance of "If I Were A Boy" from the show below--

Leona Lewis "Run" Video Premiere

"Run" is the new single taken from Leona Lewis' recent UK re-release Spirit: The Deluxe Edition. *GoOsEbUmPs* Gorgeous. Which you ask? Why, both the song & the video of course.

Kanye West Performs "Love Lockdown" On Letterman

Kanye West promoted the release of his fourth album 808s & Heartbreak, which came out yesterday, by performing its first single "Love Lockdown" on The Late Show With David Letterman. Kanye gets a little carried away with this song live. I listened to 808s & Heartbreak & although I enjoyed it to an extent, it isn't nearly as great as some of the reviews I've read claim that it is.

In Theaters Now...

Grade: A

*UPDATED* Britney Spears "Rolling Stone" Magazine Cover

The one & only Britney Spears graces the cover of Rolling Stone's newest issue. She really is back, people! I absolutely love it. Britney's sixth studio album Circus will be released on December 2nd.

UPDATE: You can view Britney's entire cover shoot for Rolling Stone HERE.

Pink Performs On Ellen

So What

Pink performed on a special Vegas edition of The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. She sang her #1 single "So What" & the title track off her latest album Funhouse. There was fun in the house indeed!

Busta Rhymes "I Got Bass" Video Premiere

All I know about "I Got Bass" is that it might appear on Busta Rhymes' forthcoming album B.O.M.B. (March 10th). The video is pretty cool though.

The Caffeine Patch: Alvin & The Chipmunks "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" Video Premiere

Fresh off their win for Favorite Soundtrack Album at last night's AMAs, Alvin & The Chipmunks wish you happy holidays with the video for their classic "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)." Though it uses scenes from their 2007 movie, the video is most likely being used to promote the gang's recently released album Undeniable.

The 2008 American Music Awards Performance Highlights

Mariah Carey "I Stay In Love"

Christina Aguilera - Medley

Beyonce "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

Pink "Sober"

The Pussycat Dolls - Medley

Sarah McLachlan & Pink "Angel"

Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, & Kathleen Battle "Superwoman"

Leona Lewis "Better In Time"

Natasha Bedingfield - Medley

Kanye West "Heartless"

Rihanna "Rehab"

Sure the awards themselves were duds, but the 2008 American Music Awards was the best awards show of the year—thanks in no small part to the outstanding lineup of performers. Christina Aguilera opened the show in an unprecedented way with a hits medley that included “Beautiful,” “Keeps Gettin’ Better,” “Genie In A Bottle,” “Dirrty,” “Ain’t No Other Man” & “Fighter.” Nonstop action! I loved it. Beyonce did an amazing job with her performance. The Pussycat Dolls performed both “I Hate This Part” & “When I Grow Up,” & though Nicole was vocally on-point, my favorite part was the dance break toward the end. One of the most shocking highlights of the night was when Pink joined Sarah McLachlan on stage for a duet. Beautiful gorgeousness. Alicia Keys brought the show to a close with a couple guests & though it was a bit of a mess, it wasn’t bad. I couldn’t for the life of me get into Leona Lewis’ performance however. Love her, but if I hear that @#$% song one more time… RELEASE ANOTHER SINGLE ALREADY! The underrated Natasha Bedingfield shined with her medley of “Soulmate,” “Unwritten,” & “Pocketful Of Sunshine.” Kanye West also did his thing, while Rihanna was simply blah. Mariah Carey & Pink’s solo performance were enjoyable as well. For a complete list of winners, click HERE.

Divas II Performance Highlights

Leona Lewis "Run"

Pink "So What"

Rihanna "Disturbia"

Many of today's finest female artists performed at the recent Divas II event in the UK. Leona Lewis sang "Run" & I must say that this is my favorite song for Leona live. It fits her very well. Pink performed "So What" & did a good job. Rihanna's performance of "Disturbia" didn't do much for me though, as I only really see her as a studio artist.

Beyonce Replaces "Ego" With "Diva"

Contrary to previous reports, Beyonce will not release "Ego" as the second single off the Sasha Fierce half of her new album I Am... Sasha Fierce, which is out now. Instead, she has opted to go with the song "Diva." Excellent choice! Not only is it a better decision because "Diva" is actually on the shorter standard edition of the album, but because "Diva" is such a better song & I can see it doing very well on radio. Considering the massive amount of hot material courtesy of Sasha, "Ego" just doesn't cut it as a single imo (yet anyway).

Will.I.Am Performs "It's A New Day" On YouTube Live

YouTube had its very first concert recently & was there to perform his new single "It's A New Day."

*UPDATED* New Britney Spears Promo Ad

Check out this new promotional shot of Britney Spears being used to advertise the release of her new album Circus on December 2nd. A bit too much hair, but otherwise good.

UPDATE: Here's a brand new commercial for Circus--

Will.I.Am "She Loves Me" Video Premiere

"She Loves Me" is another song recorded by for the new animated film "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." He did a great job on the soundtrack for this awesome movie!

Weekend Flashback Performance: Kelly Rowland At The 2006 MTV VMAs Japan

One of last year's most underrated albums imo is Kelly Rowland's Ms. Kelly. All three members of Destiny's Child bring something special to the table as soloists & this performance proves that point for Kelly Rowland. Before launching her last project with "Like This," Kelly planned on releasing "Gotsta Go," a song that would eventually not make the final tracklisting, as its first single. The track was properly performed at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards Japan & Kelly absolutely killed it. This just goes to show how much star power was packed into our favorite girl group of the last decade.

Check out this hilarious new trailer for "Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs." Be sure to go see the movie in 3D when it hits theaters on July 1st.

*UPDATED* Keri Hilson ft. Lil' Wayne "Turnin' Me On" Video Premiere

"Turnin' Me On," featuring Lil' Wayne, is the third single taken from Keri Hilson's forthcoming debut album In A Perfect World.... This video isn't quite the spectacle that "Return The Favor" was, but I love it all the same. Keri looks amazing throughout the Erik White-directed clip. I wish they would have given her second single a bit more of a push, but maybe Keri can promote both of these tracks come time for her album release. In the mean time, peep cameos from Polow Da Don & Rich Boy in "Turnin' Me On."

UPDATE: I've attached the revised single cover for "Turnin' Me On" below for your viewing pleasure--

Billboard Update

^This week's #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart
This week's #1 single on the Hot 100 chart^

See full charts HERE.

Taylor Swift enters the Billboard 200 album chart at #1 this week with Fearless, while T.I. & Rihanna keep the top spot of the Hot 100 singles chart warm for a fourth non-consecutive week with "Live Your Life." David Archuleta debuted at #2 with his self-titled debut album this week by selling 183,000 copies. Yay! Christina Aguilera's Target-exclusive greatest hits album Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade Of Hits debuted at #9 with 73,000 copies sold. Deborah Cox wasn't quite as lucky, as her latest album The Promise started off at #106. Make sure you guys check her new one out!

Leona Lewis Performs "Better In Time" On Jimmy Kimmel

Leona Lewis performed "Run" ... no, wait ... "Forgive Me" ... wait, no ... "Better In Time" on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently. I would have enjoyed it if the song weren't, as Toya would say, staler than moldy bread. Leona's debut album Spirit is out now.

The Caffeine Patch: New Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs Poster

One of my most anticipated movies of 2009 is "Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs," the third film in the "Ice Age" series. Scrat & the gang will return to the big screen--this time in 3D(!)--on July 1st.

Solange "T.O.N.Y." Video Premiere

"T.O.N.Y." is the third single off Solange's latest album SoL-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams. I like the song, but I'm on the fence about the video. Let's just get the obvious outta the way: if your more famous sister, whom you are trying to separate yourself from, has a black & white theme going on at the moment, then you need to stay far, far away from it. The beginning is a bit strange, but it just gets downright funky towards the end. I guess it ends up being kinda sweet & it does fit the song, so it's whatever. Do look out for a cameo from Cee-Lo btw.

Brandy "Jet" Magazine Cover

Brandy is on the cover of the latest issue of Jet magazine. She looks great. Save the date: December 9th is release date for Brandy's comeback album Human!

The Pussycat Dolls On Loose Women

"I Hate This Part"

The Pussycat Dolls continued to make the rounds overseas by serving as guests on Loose Women. The Dolls performed "I Hate This Part," the latest single taken from their new album Doll Domination (out now), & participated in an interview (well, 2 of them anyway). What's with all the dang promo in the UK? It's not like they couldn't use some over here too--even if they aren't touring here first.

*UPDATED* New Britney Spears Promo Pic

A new promotional photo of Britney Spears has surfaced. Though she looks slightly possessed, I like. Her new album Circus drops December 2nd.

UPDATE: Check out Britney's all-new official interview, which has her discussing her new album Circus--

Leona Lewis & John Legend Perform On Dancing With The Stars

Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love"

John Legend "Green Light"

Dancing With The Stars had themselves their biggest results show ever this week. Among the featured performers were Leona Lewis, who performed her #1 hit "Bleeding Love," & John Legend, who sang his latest single "Green Light." Good stuff. Her album Spirit & his latest Evolver are available now. Note: After the Leona performance, you can stop the video.

Katharine McPhee & David Foster Perform "Somewhere" On The View

Katharine McPhee appeared alongside David Foster on The View to help promote his new project Hit Man: David Foster & Friends by performing the featured song "Somewhere." I can't say Kat did quite as well this time, but she's still great!

The Pussycat Dolls On The Paul O'Grady Show

"I Hate This Part"

The Pussycat Dolls have re-emerged to do some UK promo. PCD performed "I Hate This Part," the latest single off their sophomore album Doll Domination, which is out now, & appeared for an interview on The Paul O'Grady Show. Nicole did a nice job, but they really shouldn't zoom in on the other girls lip-synching lol.

"Britney: For The Record" Promos

*UPDATED* Beyonce Performs On 106 & Park

"Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

"If I Were A Boy"

Beyonce celebrated the release of her third studio album I Am... Sasha Fierce by performing her two singles on 106 & Park today. "Single Ladies," which was #1(!), just doesn't get old. I allowed myself to enjoy "If I Were A Boy" this time & ... can you say perfection? Make sure you get that album!

UPDATE: Check out the interview below, which features Beyonce serenading adoring fans with "At Last" during the second part. Aww... no wonder Jay-Z fell in love with her--

Part 1

Part 2

Kanye West "808s & Heartbreak" Tracklisting

Kanye West is prepping for the release of his fourth album 808s & Heartbreak on this coming Monday, November 24th. The tracklisting for the project has revealed itself & can be seen below:

1. Say You Will
2. Welcome To Heartbreak (ft. Kid Cudi)
3. Heartless
4. Amazing (ft. Young Jeezy)
5. Love Lockdown
6. Paranoid (ft. Mr. Hudson)
7. RoboCop
8. Street Lights
9. Bad News
10. See You In My Nightmares (ft. Lil' Wayne)
11. Coldest Winter

I haven't listened to any of the tracks that have leaked outside of the first two singles, but I like what I hear thus far. I'm liking Mr. West's take on autotone, even if it could never replace an actual singer.

David Archuleta On The Bonnie Hunt Show

David Archuleta put in an appearance at the new talk show The Bonnie Hunt Show recently. He performed the first single "Crush" off his self-titled debut album, which is out now, & did an interview. The performance was flawless & his natural charm made for a great interview--both as usual.

New Britney Spears Promo Pic

Britney Spears is glowing in this new promotional photo for her upcoming album Circus (December 2nd). I love it & I can't wait to see Britney in action, making this comeback a reality.

Leona Lewis "Run": Behind-The-Scenes

Check out this first look at Leona Lewis' video for "Run," the next single being taken from her new UK re-release Spirit: The Deluxe Edition. I've gotten to where I really like this song & the video looks to be quite breathtaking, so I can't wait for it to premiere!

Avant "Break Ya Back (In A Good Way)" Video Premiere

"Break Ya Back (In A Good Way)," I'm assuming, is the second single taken from Avant's upcoming self-titled album (December 9th). You could definitely say this video isn't the cleanest of them all. I'm rooting for Avant, but he just lost a few points in my book with this display.

John Legend "Everybody Knows": Behind-The-Scenes

Here is a sneak peek at the making of John Legend's new video for "Everybody Knows," which is set to be the second single off his recently released album Evolver. Whatever. I think there's another song on his album they should have released more 'quickly' ... if you catch my drift.

New Stuff Tuesday

Today is a really cool day for new releases! First up is Beyonce's third album I Am... Sasha Fierce. Featuring the singles "If I Were A Boy" & "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," Beyonce's new album got a great review from me & has sparked the interest of no less than 36% of you (the actual number is more, but those Archies mean business!) If you care to purchase I Am... Sasha Fierce, click on the cover (featured above) on the widget to your right or the other Beyonce cover for the deluxe edition. Also being released today is Disney/Pixar's latest movie "WALL-E." I don't think it's too early to say that "WALL-E" is my favorite movie of the year, so give it a shot & buy it by clicking the cover above.

Monday, November 17, 2008

Rihanna "Rehab" Video Premiere

"Rehab" is the millionth single taken from Rihanna's latest album Good Girl Gone Bad. The Anthony Mandler-directed clip sure is a beauty. If RiRi can do one thing, it's pick the video director that fits her the best. Justin Timberlake, who co-wrote "Rehab," co-stars in the video.

Beyonce On AOL Sessions

"Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

"If I Were A Boy"

"At Last"

"Me, Myself & I"

Beyonce is the latest artist to do AOL Sessions, as her new album I Am... Sasha Fierce drops tomorrow. Returning to black & white mode, Beyonce performed her two latest singles "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" & "If I Were A Boy" fabulously. Then, she got into character for "At Last," & finished off with her hits "Irreplaceable" & "Me, Myself & I." Beyonce sounded incredible.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Mya "Paradise" Video Premiere

"Paradise" is the first single off Mya's upcoming album Sugar & Spice, which is set to be released on December 3rd in Japan. Despite the record label's complete lack of monetary support, Mya looks exquisite, which saves the video. Good thing because ... a bathtub for a beach? Right.

*UPDATED* TRL Finale Performance Highlights

Beyonce - Medley

Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way" + Interview

Total Finale Live aired tonight & featured some very special performances. Beyonce killed it as she performed a medley of "If I Were A Boy," "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," & "Crazy In Love" (for good measure). The Backstreet Boys performed their classic "I Want It That Way" for old time's sake & it was an awesome moment. Now that TRL is really gone, I have to accept that it is no more, which makes me kinda sad!

UPDATE: In addition to replacing the above BSB video with one that includes their interview, the Backstreet Boys performed a couple more songs on the show, so here they are--

"All I Have To Give"

Jennifer Hudson "Gap" Ad

Jennifer Hudson has given Gap her blessing to move forward with her ad campaign for the clothing company this Christmas. The cute photo can be seen above. Hopefully, J-Hud will begin to heal this holiday season.

Album Review: Beyonce "I Am... Sasha Fierce (Deluxe Edition)"

Beyonce may be on her third solo album, but that's not to say she has run out of tricks. With the double-disc I Am... Sasha Fierce, Beyonce is just now introducing us not only to herself, but the one & only Sasha Fierce. We got a taste of the real Beyonce with I Am...'s first single "If I Were A Boy," while Sasha showed off her fierceness with "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," the first single off her very own Sasha Fierce disc. The real question is: no matter the alter-ego, did Beyonce bring it this time around? Let's just say she isn't the queen of the game for no reason.

I Am... starts off with the powerful "If I Were A Boy," followed by "Halo," an amazing song that's just begging to become a hit. "Disappear," aside from being absolutely gorgeous, basically begins the trend that runs throughout all of I Am... Sasha Fierce that makes it extra special: Beyonce gets creative with her vocal ability. I like a woman with a great voice, but I love a woman with a great voice who never relies solely on her incredible talent.

Beyonce continues I Am... with "Broken-Hearted Girl," which is more of the vocal beauty that, at first listen, had me already wondering if it would even be possible to love Sasha more than Beyonce herself. If you want to be blown away, listen to "Ave Maria." The track that follows, "Smash Into You," will work too, as it is enough of a reason by itself to pass up the standard edition of this album for the deluxe one. Beyonce closes off the first disc with "Satellites," a beautiful atmospheric song, & "That's Why You're Beautiful," a fitting end to the excellent I Am....

Enter Sasha Fierce. She starts off with "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," which may at first seem like your typical Beyonce uptempo (which isn't a bad thing at all), but one view of the video & you'll get it. More of the aforementioned creativity reappears with "Radio," while "Diva" could be considered an improved female version of "A Milli." I wasn't particularly impressed with the early leaked version of "Sweet Dreams," but the final edit is awesome.

Sasha had me at "Video Phone," which has attitude for days. She does, however, get a little more personal on "Hello" without getting out of character. Staying in character can definitely be said about "Ego," a suggestive midtempo. Sasha Fierce ends with "Scared Of Lonely," which I will honestly say that, although it's not a bad song, I just can't quite wrap my head around how the song really fits on this disc.

Overall, Beyonce really pulled it off with I Am... Sasha Fierce. I loved her last album B'Day, so for her to have an entire disc of slow jams to showcase her talent was a great way for me to appreciate Bee without comparing this album to her last one. At the same time, giving Sasha Fierce some shine was a great thing, especially because Beyonce was able to raise her game in some aspects enough so that I could simply enjoy the new music. I really loved what Beyonce accomplished vocally with I Am... Sasha Fierce & I truly feel that Beyonce has solidified her place as one of our generation's best.

"If I Were A Boy"

"Single Ladies" Skit

Beyonce made an epic appearance on tonight's episode of Saturday Night Live, performing both of her new singles "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" & "If I Were A Boy" separately (finally!), & participating in a hilarious skit as well. After watching that "Single Ladies" performance, there isn't anybody who can say that Beyonce hasn't stepped up her game this time around. Sasha sure brought it! Also, Beyonce was accompanied by Justin Timberlake in the skit, which is an instant classic. Don't forget to pick up your copy of I Am... Sasha Fierce on Tuesday!

Weekend Flashback Performance: Mariah Carey At The Rosie O'Donnell Show

The year was 1998. Mariah Carey had just released a landmark album for her & one of the best of her career: Butterfly. Everybody knows the first single "Honey" & the subsequent #1 "My All," but Mariah chose instead to sing the better album track "Close My Eyes" when she appeared on The Rosie O'Donnell Show to promote the album. The rest is history. This is a classic Mariah performance of a fan favorite that just goes to show what a special talent MC really is.

Leona Lewis returned to her home turf by performing "Run," a new cover taken from her upcoming re-release Spirit: The Deluxe Edition, which comes out Monday in the UK, on The X Factor. Simon was right: that was incredible. Ladies & gentlemen, this is why Leona Lewis is famous.

Beyonce is tonight's musical guest on Saturday Night Live, so here's the promo shot for her appearance. More silliness. Her new album I Am... Sasha Fierce will be out on November 18th.

David Archuleta On Ellen

David Archuleta continued on the press tour with a stop at The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform "Crush," the first single off his self-titled debut album, which is in stores now, & for a short interview afterwards. I believe this is the best performance of "Crush" yet. Absolutely flawless. The interview was nice as well.
