The 2010 American Music Awards Recap

Christina Aguilera "Express"

Pink "Raise Your Glass"

Dirty Money "Coming Home"

Rihanna - Medley

The Black-Eyed Peas "The Time (Dirty Bit)"

Usher "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love"

Backstreet Boys & New Kids On The Block - Medley

So, the 2010 American Music Awards had a few decent performances to offer. Christina Aguilera promoted her new movie "Burlesque" with a performance that, well, wasn't her absolute best, but was still entertaining. Pink, pregnant & all, put on a great show as usual. Dirty Money gave me what I needed, yet has me wondering more than ever why Dawn couldn't have just sung the chorus like she does (wonderfully!) here. Rihanna, who opened the show, did so with a little "Love The Way You Lie (Part II)", followed (thankfully) by "What's My Name?" & ending with "Only Girl (In The World)". RiRi did her best! I must say though that she did look pretty good this evening. The Black-Eyed Peas, with their new-old garb, were still their typical selves. Usher frustrated me with that rehashing of his VMA performance & the whole NKOTBSB thing was just awkward. The winners, as usual, were nothing to write home about, but Usher did pick up two trophies for Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist & Favorite Soul/R&B Album for Raymond Vs. Raymond, while Rihanna picked up Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, The Black-Eyed Peas received Favorite Pop/Rock Group, & Carrie Underwood's Play On won Favorite Country Album. The rest are HERE, but if you're not a 14-year-old girl, you won't like them.

2011 People's Choice Awards Nominees Announced

Weird. I was under the impression that Beyonce didn't do much this past year, yet she leads the relevant nominees for the 2011 People's Choice Awards with four. Joining her are Usher, Carrie Underwood, & Rihanna with three each, while Pink & Alicia Keys nabbed a pair apiece. If you'd like, you can vote HERE for the 2011 People's Choice Awards, which will air January 5th on ABC with Queen Latifah returning as host.

American Idol Season 10 Promo

Lately, American Idol has been hunting down all of its winners to shoot the above promo for the show's tenth season. They're all there, including Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, & Kris Allen. I love it!

2010 American Music Award Nominees Announced

Usher leads the pack of relevant nominees for the 2010 American Music Awards with three nods. Alicia Keys & Carrie Underwood nabbed a pair each, while Rihanna & The Black-Eyed Peas earned one apiece. In addition to his nominations, Usher, as well as Pink, will be performing at this year's festivities, which go down live on Sunday, November 21st @ 8/7c on ABC. Unfortunately, the AMAs have lost all credibility in recent years, but it should be a good show!

Carrie Underwood "Mama's Song" Video Premiere

"Mama's Song" is the fourth single off Carrie Underwood's third album Play On. The video stars Carrie's mom, features a cameo by her husband Mike Fisher, & basically plays out the lyrics of the song. It's too bad "Undo It" couldn't have gotten a half-decent video too.

American Idol Finale Performance Highlights

Christina Aguilera "You Lost Me"

Janet Jackson & Finalists - Medley

Idols Tribute Simon Cowell

Carrie Underwood "Undo It"
Kris Allen "The Truth"
Christina Aguilera & Top 6 Girls - Medley
Paula Abdul Roasts Simon Cowell
General Larry Platt & William Hung "Pants On The Ground"

Christina Aguilera & tributes to Simon made the finale of American Idol this year's best episode, sad as it may be. Christina rocked the house with one of my favorite songs off her new album, reminding America what singing actually sounds like in the process. While I enjoyed Janet Jackson's performance (& I hate to be a party pooper)... 1) I wish she hadn't lipsynched "Nothing", 2) she could've actually danced during "Nasty", & 3) her hair looked better when it wasn't stuck to her head. Now that I have that off my chest, I'm fully aware that Janet simply being on that stage is more entertaining that anything any contestant did this season. And Siobhan, don't try to sing "Again". The Simon tribute was cool, as all the previous winners (except David Cook) & several other former finalists shared the stage together. Kelly, Fantasia, & Jordin sure did their thing too! As for Old Yeller 2.0 winning... I don't reeeally care, but considering he's a poor man's David Cook, it would've been a decent change of pace to have a girl win. I mean, I was so used to hearing such awful singing that when Crystal sang with Alanis, it actually sounded OK..! (Heck, I thought Katie & even Michael almost sounded talented during the finale.) Mainly, I just wish people would realize how pathetic & detrimental to the show it is that they vote for the winner like it's a popularity contest rather than a singing competition. If you continue to change your minds about who should win in the last few weeks of the competition & instead of picking the contestant who deserves it, you pick the one whose personality you like best, the winners are going to continue painting a bad picture of the show by not selling anything & it will spell the end of Idol. I guess it doesn't matter much though, since this show has apparently lost its ability to find people who can actually sing anyway. But speaking of people who can actually sing, check out Vonzell singing part of her single "Dirt Bag" on this week's episode of The BabyV Show:

Carrie Underwood "Undo It" Video Premiere

"Undo It" is the third single off Carrie Underwood's third album Play On. What kinda tomfoolery is this? The woman sells enough albums, you'd think they could at least shoot a decent video. I just can't believe they would do my song this way.

Idol Review: Top 7

Mary J. Blige "Stairway To Heaven"

Alicia Keys - Medley

The Black-Eyed Peas "Rock That Body"

Carrie Underwood "Change"

So, Idol Gives Back had its moments. My favorite was Mary J. Blige's performance with her all-star band (Travis Barker, Randy Jackson, Ron Fair, Steve Vai, Orianthi...). It's really cool that they got them all together to perform this, especially on American Idol & for charity. The week's mentor Alicia Keys performed "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)" & a pitchy "Empire State Of Mind (Part 2) Broken Down". I wish she had just done her new single. Also there were The Black-Eyed Peas, who were their typical selves, & Carrie Underwood, who reminded us of the days when talent actually came from this show.

On Tuesday night, the only thing the contestants inspired me to do was bang my head against a wall. Casey continued to treat the competition like his first audition & the judges FINALLY started to catch on. Old Yeller 2.0 was awful & Aaron embarassed the crap out of himself, as he does best. Siobhan deserved a whoopin', Michael was pathetic, & Crystal was dumb! Tim, being the only contestant the show would've sent home this week anyway, especially deserved his ticket home this week for disrespecting that song the way he did. Overall, the show made me wanna cry.

Below, you will see this week's episode of The BabyV Show. I recommend that you watch. ;)

Carrie Underwood "Temporary Home" Video Premiere

"Temporary Home" is the second single off Carrie Underwood's third album Play On. She certainly took her time releasing another single! Then again, she's Carrie Underwood: She sells regardless. Nonetheless, & even though the song is your typical sappy country ballad, the video's a nice one. I don't know that this would necessarily have been my pick for the next single, as I recall thinking that the ballads on Carnival Ride were better, but it'll do just fine.

The 2010 Grammys Recap

Michael Jackson Tribute

Pink "Glitter In The Air"

Mary J. Blige & Andrea Bocelli "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

Beyonce - Medley

The Black-Eyed Peas - Medley

The 2010 Grammys were on tonight & they were so-so, which makes for an improvement over last year at least. Of course, the night's big event was the Michael Jackson tribute featuring Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Carrie Underwood, & Smokey Robinson. They may not honor them with their awards, but the Grammys certainly did a great job choosing very talented vocalists to sing "Earth Song." Despite recycling it from her Funhouse tour (get that DVD already, folks!), Pink awed with her performance, which, I must say, was an excellent & refreshing choice for the Grammys. Mary J. Blige joined Andrea Bocelli on stage for a Haiti tribute, which was amazing. Click HERE for the download link to their studio recording of the song, which benefits Haiti. Beyonce also recycled her "If I Were A Boy"/"You Oughta Know" tour medley, but to lesser effect. Don't get me wrong: Beyonce did a great job on top of having an even better night, but I would've preferred either something new or, honestly, more fitting. Lastly, The Black-Eyed Peas performed their gag-inducing "I Gotta Feeling" after their new single "Imma Be" & were entertaining. Check out the winners below (complete list HERE), which include Beyonce with six, the most for a female performer in one night ever!
  • Beyonce: Song Of The Year ("Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Halo"), Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Single Ladies"), Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance ("At Last"), Best R&B Song ("Single Ladies"), Best Contemporary R&B Album (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
  • The Black-Eyed Peas: Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals ("I Gotta Feeling"), Best Pop Vocal Album (The E.N.D.), Best Short Form Music Video ("Boom Boom Pow")
  • Rihanna & Kanye West: Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("Run This Town"), Best Rap Song ("Run This Town")
  • India.Arie: Best Urban/Alternative Performance ("Pearls")
  • Imogen Heap: Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (Ellipse)
  • Carrie Underwood: Best Country Collaboration With Vocals ("I Told You So")
  • Michael Jackson: Lifetime Achievement Award

Michael Jackson 3D Tribute To Be Staged At Grammys

This year's Grammys are all set to give Michael Jackson a tribute fit for the King of Pop. They will be broadcasting a 3D clip set to Michael's hit "Earth Song" that was created for use in his "This Is It" concert tour. Accompanying the video will be Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson, & Jennifer Hudson (who was previously speculated to be a performer & now we know in what way). It is noted that although part of this clip was shown in the "This Is It" film, the entire video will be broadcast in 3D at the Grammys. If you don't have any 3D glasses, you can pick some up before the show at your local Target. In addition, Jackson will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony. The 2010 Grammys air Sunday, January 31st, @ 8/7c!

The 2010 People's Choice Awards Recap

Mary J. Blige "I Am"

Nicole Scherzinger & Cobra Starship "Good Girls Go Bad"

In the first of only two performances at last night's 2010 People's Choice Awards, Mary J. Blige performed her current single "I Am" & it was good, but you'd think she might start performing another song after a while (just sayin'). Later, after performing part of their own "Hot Mess," Cobra Starship welcomed special guest Nicole Scherzinger to help them perform their hit single "Good Girls Go Bad." (Estelle previously stepped into the shoes originally worn by "singer" Leighton Meester on the song.) Again, I hate the song, but Nicole's always a pleasure to see & hear. Among the show's winners were Mariah Carey for Favorite R&B Artist, Rihanna & Kanye West with Jay-Z for Favorite Music Collaboration ("Run This Town"), Carrie Underwood for Favorite Country Artist, & American Idol for Favorite Competition Show. See the rest of the winners HERE.

Watch "Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special"

I know I'm late with this, but the opportunities of the internet cease to amaze me! TV networks continually accommodate us more & more, with FOX allowing this full viewing of "Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special" via Hulu. The 2-hour (with commercials) special features multiple guests, with Carrie performing alongside Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Sons Of Sylvia, Kristin Chenoweth, & Christina Applegate. Carrie also sings by herself & participates in a number of funny skits. It's a great watch, so have at it! Don't forget that Carrie's new album Play On is in stores now.

2010 Grammy Nominees Announced

With a whopping 10 nominations, Beyonce leads the pack of nominees for the 2010 Grammys. She was nominated in all the big categories she was eligible for: Record Of The Year ("Halo"), Album Of The Year (I Am... Sasha Fierce), & Song Of The Year ("Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"). Considering Beyonce has talent for dayyys, she definitely deserves it! Other multiple nominees include The Black-Eyed Peas & Kanye West, who received six each, as well as India.Arie, who nabbed three. Double nominees include Best New Artist candidate Keri Hilson, Pink, Imogen Heap, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, & (ironically, since they completely shut her out last year) Jazmine Sullivan. There are even more exciting nominations, so click HERE to see them all. I don't really wanna work my nerves over what else should've (or should NOT have) been nominated because nobody good ever wins anyway, but at least we have the (well, some) nominations!

Billboard Update

^#1 Album #1 Single^

Alright, I can handle this. Carrie Underwood notches her second straight #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart with Play On following first-week sales of 318,000 copies, giving her the best sales week of the year for a female! Unfortunately, the good album news ends there because Amerie debuts at #46 with In Love & War & Ryan Leslie's Transition enters at #50. On the Hot 100 singles chart this week, Owl City's "Fireflies" returns to the top, while Rihanna earns her 12th top 10 hit as "Russian Roulette" rockets 75-9 after selling 132,000 digital downloads out of the gate. "Empire State Of Mind," or the song that doesn't stop, from Alicia Keys & Jay-Z lands at #2 with the Airplay Gainer status.

Carrie Underwood To Star In Holiday Special

Just like Jennifer Hudson before her, Carrie Underwood has secured herself a primetime TV special for the holidays. The Idol winner will star in "Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special" (working title) for FOX on December 7th @ 8/7c. Joining her for the special occasion are Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, & the gag-worthy David Cook. Despite that last little blip, this should be a good watch. It looks like it'll be an Idol Christmas this year! Don't forget: Carrie's third album Play On will be released on November 3rd.
