The 2009 ALMA Awards Recap

David Archuleta "Contigo En La Distancia"

Sean Kingston "Fire Burning"

The 2009 ALMA Awards were on last night & David Archuleta owned the show. He blew the roof off the joint with his performance of "Contigo En La Distancia" & even won an award for Rising Male Star, so congratulations to David for that! Now, after I finished watching his performance (& subsequently picked my jaw up off the floor), I shouted WOW! Of course, that didn't nearly do Archie's masterful vocal justice, so I decided something: We should come up with a word exclusively for David Archuleta (because it can only describe him anyway) that means amazing/awesome/outstanding/fantastic/incredible, but better. Archuriffic?! I dunno.. that's what I need you guys for! Anyway, I have actually heard Christina Aguilera sing that song on the one & only Spanish album I have lol, so I know it's one for only the strongest of singers & Mr. Archuleta proved once again tonight that he belongs right up there with the best of 'em. Sean Kingston also performed a latin-inspired version of "Fire Burning" & after the show, tweeted about meeting David. Very cool!

I have the same reaction as you after hearing David and I still listening to it on repeat....

I felt the same way. I was a bit confused by the audience reaction though. They tried to break out in applause a few times, but held back. I am convinced now they were simply stunned and preferred not to interrupt the emotional performance. I was entirely too moving.

Justin ~ Love what you wrote!! I'm with Gail, though. One phrase is never gonna be able to describe the Archuleta's talent. Masterful? Magnificent? Mind blowing? Jaw dropping? See, still not good enough.

A stunning performance every time I watch it! I love it when David comes up with some new way to amaze us. I'll be replaying this until David's Christmas album comes out on Oct 13 and beyond.

David Archuleta was the highlight of the show. I don't understand Spanish but I would definately buy a David Archuleta Spanish CD. Just that voice and the guitar, no prerecordings, no autotune, no second takes, first time was perfection. He sure is one Stunningly Handsome young man with so much class, go get em David, you are loved by millions.

I watched the ALMA Awards just because I knew David Archuleta was going to be receiving a much deserved award and also performing. David's performance was AMAZING!! I already have an MP3 ready to load of the song for my iPod.

David sang like the amazing artist that he is. His voice is so strong and he puts his heart and soul into every performance. Trying to descibe him in one word is something we have all struggled with since first hearing the voice. I hope you find one but I don't think just one adjective will be enough.

David was simply stunning! To answer Pastel, I've read a post from a guy who attended the show, and he said they edited out some of the applause for the television broadcast, and that it was much louder than what we heard on TV. I have mixed emotions about that. On the one hand I'm sure they did it so that we could hear David singing more clearly, but on the other I would have enjoyed the audience's reaction unfiltered.

David's performance at the ALMAs was absolutely stunning! He is the most talented peformer out there today. How many 18 year olds could sing like that? He is simply amazing!!!!!

No kidding! I almost passed out watching this performance on TV because I forgot to breathe during it! David is a once in a lifetime talent and a beautiful person. Like a rare jewel, I think of David as "precious" -but I think he would cringe at that!!

I have that forgetting to breathe breathe problem too. Stunningly
beautiful performance.
