The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Recap

Michael Jackson Tribute

Beyonce - Medley

Pink "Sober"

Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys "Empire State Of Mind"

Don't get it twisted: The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards were about Janet Jackson's tribute to Michael Jackson. Following an incredible dance tribute set to a medley of Michael's biggest hits, "Scream" started up & everyone knew it was about to go down. It was almost too much for me to take when Janet busted through that glass. She was setting that stage on fire anyway, but when she started doing her dance with Michael on the screen, I almost collapsed. Ms. Jackson, you did brilliantly tonight & we respect & thank you for a job well done. Later on in the show, Beyonce took to the stage to perform what started out to be a slow version of "Sweet Dreams" & ended up being the "Single Ladies" performance to end all "SL" performances! She did a great job as well. Also, Pink somehow managed to sing "Sober" while flying through the air for her entire set. Kudos to her for that alone, but also for some excellent entertainment! Lastly, Jay-Z & Alicia Keys (& Lil' Mama?! LOL) closed out the show with "Empire State Of Mind." What a vocal showing from Alicia! I was very impressed.

As for the awards themselves, Beyonce did manage to (rightfully, yet ironically) take home the Video Of The Year moonman for "Single Ladies" & was absolutely the class act of the night. The video also won the awards for Best Choreography (duh!!) & Best Editing. Other winners included Britney Spears' "Womanizer" for Best Pop Video & T.I. & Rihanna's "Live Your Life" for Best Male Video. Click HERE for a full list of (otherwise crappy) winners.
