Billboard Update

^#1 Album #1 Single^

Jay-Z & Kanye West land the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart this week with their collaborative album Watch The Throne, while Katy Perry finally notches her record-breaking fifth Teenage Dream #1 atop the Hot 100 singles chart with "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)". Missy Elliott did her part in helping Perry become the first female (& second overall, Michael Jackson having done so with Bad) to score five #1 hits off one album with the song's remix, which accounted for 25% of the 156,000 downloads the song sold last week. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera & Maroon 5 jump 8-3 with "Moves Like Jagger", earning both the Digital & Airplay Gainer titles in the process.

Missy Elliott Collaborates With Katy Perry

Missy Elliott is gonna help Katy Perry's Teenage Dream join Michael Jackson's Bad as the only albums to ever notch five #1 singles by assisting on the remix to Katy's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", which currently sits at #2. TBH, I already loved this cheesy song (& her other chart-toppers off that album sans "Firework"), so the addition of Missy is just the cherry (if I liked those lol) on top!

Black Girls Rock! Recap

Keri Hilson "Breaking Point"

Fantasia "Brand New Day" // Fantasia, Kelly Price, Ledisi, & Marsha Ambrosius "I'm Every Woman"

Keyshia Cole "I Remember"

Monica "Still Standing"

Shontelle "Impossible"

I'm so glad videos from Sunday's Black Girls Rock! special on BET have finally surfaced because I watched it the night of & I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it! There were several enjoyable performances, more than I can say for most television special in recent years, & not only that, but everybody killed! I especially have to hand it to Keri Hilson, who was surprisingly (#noshade) pitch-perfect during her performance, so that was my favorite of the night. Fantasia closed the show with a number from "The Wiz" before bringing out three other divas to sing a classic. I love me some Kelly Price, but I never realized how incredible Ledisi's voice & Marsha Ambrosius' vibrato are! Keyshia Cole was another performance that I was surprised by vocally--I haven't heard her sing that well live in forever (again, #noshade)--I just wish she had done something new... You could tell Monica's been on tour the way she shut it down with her performance & Shontelle did a nice job as well. As far as the honors were concerned, Missy Elliott was presented (by my wife Ciara!) with the Visionary award! All around, a great special & a great night for BET (even if it is just a female-only BET Honors...lol).

Keri Hilson & Missy Elliott Perform On 2010 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors

Keri Hilson & Missy Elliott both took part in a tribute to Timbaland during the 2010 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors. Following Bun B & Fabolous, Keri joined D.O.E. & Sebastian on stage for "The Way I Are". Then, Missy performed "Get Ur Freak On" & "Work It" to close out the tribute. It's good to know that Missy's still alive & kickin'!

Ciara ft. Missy Elliott "Work" Video Premiere

"Work," featuring Missy Elliott, is the next international single off Ciara's new album Fantasy Ride. CiCi sure was workin' it! This video was definitely worth the wait. I'd say that I hope "Work" does Ciara some favors on the charts, but apparently we have to rely on "Like A Surgeon" for that...

Missy Elliott recently performed a pair of her hits for Yahoo! Music's Pepsi Smash. They were fine & all, but where in the world did her Block Party album go?! We want new Missy!

Aaliyah Biopic Planned

Warner Bros. will be making a movie based on the life of the late Aaliyah. Bill Condon, the director of "Dreamgirls," is attached to direct the film. Canadian singer Keshia Chante will play Aaliyah in the movie, which will get personal regarding the private life of the late singer. The biopic, which should begin production by the end of March, looks promising, considering some of the names involved are Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Ginuwine, video director Hype Williams, & choreographer Fatima Robinson. Each time I listen to some of Aaliyah's music, it blows my mind as I realize her material seems to actually get even more relevant to the industry as time goes by, which explains why, with only three albums released during her lifetime, Aaliyah sold over 32 million records worldwide.

*UPDATED* The Pussycat Dolls & Missy Elliott Perform "Whatcha Think About That" On Ellen

The Pussycat Dolls & Missy Elliott paired up once again to perform their new single "Whatcha Think About That" off the former's latest album Doll Domination (out now) on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. They did great, although I wish they would just turn that backing track off. Of course, I suppose if Missy insists on using it... *sigh*

UPDATE: PCD also performed "I Hate This Part"--

The Pussycat Dolls & Missy Elliott Perform "Whatcha Think About That" On Dancing With The Stars

The Pussycat Dolls have finally started pushing that second single ... & in a big way too. PCD performed "Whatcha Think About That" off their new album Doll Domination (out now) on Dancing With The Stars with special guest Missy Elliott. While Nicole took over Missy's part at the beginning, the woman herself showed up as a surprise later in the performance. The Dolls did a great job with this one. In news that should shock no one, Missy's new album Block Party has been pushed back to February 10th. I'm sad, but I know it'll be worth the wait. (Plus, I'll have Brandy to occupy me through the year's end anyway!)

The Pussycat Dolls ft. Missy Elliott "Whatcha Think About That" Video Premiere

"Whatcha Think About That," featuring Missy Elliott, is the second single off The Pussycat Dolls' recently released sophomore album Doll Domination. First off, let me say that I love this song ... & PCD's entire new album for that matter. However, whatever the remix (Darkchild maybe?), I prefer the album version of this song. Nonetheless, I think the video is really hot with many setups & looks for the girls. Of course, Missy is always a plus as well. One last thing: since when is Nicole, like, the hottest chick on the planet?

Danity Kane ft. Missy Elliott "Bad Girl" Video Premiere

"Bad Girl," featuring Missy Elliott, is the second single off Danity Kane's sophomore album Welcome To The Dollhouse. DK really pulled it off with this video! I really like the concept & how it was presented. It's also good to see Missy in her element. Good stuff.

*UPDATED* Missy Elliott Album Update

Missy Elliott recently previewed selected songs from her upcoming to-be-titled-by-the-fans seventh album, which is due in late May. The album will include production by Timbaland & Danjahandz, among others. In addition to her currently released tunes "Ching-A-Ling" & "Shake Your Pom Pom" (featured on the "Step Up 2" soundtrack), the disc will include the first single "Best, Best." Other confirmed tracks include "Hip Hop Don't Die," "Milk & Cookies," & "Like When You Play The Music," which is set to feature Jazmine Sullivan. The finished set should include 10 or 11 tracks.

I am anxious to hear what the fans came up with for Missy's album title. She is always so creative & original, so hopefully some of her listeners are just like her. Missy working with longtime partner Timbaland, as well as the hottest producer out there currently Danja, definitely increases my anticipation level for the project, especially if the previously released tracks (the latter a Timbaland production) are any indication of what to expect. I had to note that Missy will be working with Jazmine Sullivan because that girl is an amazing up-&-coming artist that has some material floating around that is definitely worth checking out. As for the number of songs to expect, it's a little disappointing, but I won't judge until I hear the tunes.

UPDATE: Rap-Up recently previewed Missy's new album as well. They revealed 4 new song titles: "Act A Fool," "All For You," "Love" (produced by Timbaland), & "Please Don't Go," which is another title given for the song formerly known as "Milk & Cookies." They also reveal that Timbaland is behind Missy's song with Jazmine Sullivan, "Like When You Play The Music," while Danjahandz produced first single "Best, Best."

Missy Elliott "Ching-A-Ling/Shake Your Pom Pom" Video Premiere IN 3D!

"Ching-A-Ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom" are Missy Elliott's 2 new tracks taken from the "Step Up 2: The Streets" soundtrack, which hits stores tomorrow. This video marks the first ever 3D music video. Missy's doin' it big like she always does. I think she brought it and the 3D definitely impresses me. I also like both of the songs and can't wait for her new album to drop later this year. It is untitled as of yet, but if you wanna let Missy know what you think the title of her 7th album should be, go HERE. Also, click to watch Missy in the Diet Pepsi Max Super Bowl commercial.

THE 2D VERSION:

I do like the colors better on this one...

*UPDATED* Missy Elliott To Shoot "Ching-A-Ling" Music Video In 3D

For the music video of her new single, "Ching-A-Ling," Missy Elliott will team up once again with director Dave Meyers to create the world's first 3D music video. This is blatantly foreshadowed by the single's cover. With the recent revival of 3D in films (that I am a fan of), this is sure to be incredible! Missy, along with Meyers, is always innovative and I can think of no one better to present the world with this completely fresh concept than her.

UPDATE: Billboard reports that not only will the video feature Missy's "Ching-A-Ling" from the Step Up 2: The Streets soundtrack, but also her other song from the CD, "Shake Your Pom Pom." Also, the video will premiere in 3D on TRL this Monday, February 4th!
