Kris Allen "Alright With Me" Video Premiere

As a thank you to the fans, Kris Allen shot this video for "Alright With Me", the third single off his self-titled debut album, while on tour. If I recall correctly, this was one of my favorites on the album.

American Idol Season 10 Promo

Lately, American Idol has been hunting down all of its winners to shoot the above promo for the show's tenth season. They're all there, including Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, & Kris Allen. I love it!

Kris Allen ft. Pat Monahan "The Truth" Video Premiere

"The Truth", featuring Train's Pat Monahan, is the *whopping* second single off Kris Allen's self-titled debut album. Jive's certainly been on top of keeping him relevent--I didn't forget he existed AT ALL. -_- The video's pretty... the chandeliers are kinda weird... as is Pat Monahan, both visually & audibly... but I think I'll give his album another listen (my first since... my first, in November).

American Idol Finale Performance Highlights

Christina Aguilera "You Lost Me"

Janet Jackson & Finalists - Medley

Idols Tribute Simon Cowell

Carrie Underwood "Undo It"
Kris Allen "The Truth"
Christina Aguilera & Top 6 Girls - Medley
Paula Abdul Roasts Simon Cowell
General Larry Platt & William Hung "Pants On The Ground"

Christina Aguilera & tributes to Simon made the finale of American Idol this year's best episode, sad as it may be. Christina rocked the house with one of my favorite songs off her new album, reminding America what singing actually sounds like in the process. While I enjoyed Janet Jackson's performance (& I hate to be a party pooper)... 1) I wish she hadn't lipsynched "Nothing", 2) she could've actually danced during "Nasty", & 3) her hair looked better when it wasn't stuck to her head. Now that I have that off my chest, I'm fully aware that Janet simply being on that stage is more entertaining that anything any contestant did this season. And Siobhan, don't try to sing "Again". The Simon tribute was cool, as all the previous winners (except David Cook) & several other former finalists shared the stage together. Kelly, Fantasia, & Jordin sure did their thing too! As for Old Yeller 2.0 winning... I don't reeeally care, but considering he's a poor man's David Cook, it would've been a decent change of pace to have a girl win. I mean, I was so used to hearing such awful singing that when Crystal sang with Alanis, it actually sounded OK..! (Heck, I thought Katie & even Michael almost sounded talented during the finale.) Mainly, I just wish people would realize how pathetic & detrimental to the show it is that they vote for the winner like it's a popularity contest rather than a singing competition. If you continue to change your minds about who should win in the last few weeks of the competition & instead of picking the contestant who deserves it, you pick the one whose personality you like best, the winners are going to continue painting a bad picture of the show by not selling anything & it will spell the end of Idol. I guess it doesn't matter much though, since this show has apparently lost its ability to find people who can actually sing anyway. But speaking of people who can actually sing, check out Vonzell singing part of her single "Dirt Bag" on this week's episode of The BabyV Show:

Also, Kris Allen debuts @ #63 with his charity single "Let It Be."

*UPDATED* Idol Review: Top 24

The live shows of season nine are finally upon us... but they sucked, so you're getting Kris Allen's cover of The Beatles' "Let It Be" from tonight's results show. His rendition, which was about 100x better than anything any one of this year's contestants had to offer this week, is supposed to be available for purchase to benefit Haiti, but it has yet to show up on iTunes, so I'll update this post with a link when/if it does.

As for the contestants, let's start with the girls. The only ones I'm interested in at all are Paige Miles & Michelle Delamor, the latter of which actually had the week's best performance, even though it was only mediocre. I would've said Ashley Rodriguez & Janell Wheeler have potential (Janell being the one that actually impressed me once with her rendition of "American Boy" in Hollywood)--& they were in the better half of the group of girls--but.. ya. I think Crystal Bowersox, Lilly Scott, Haeley Vaughn, & Siobhan Magnus are jokes; I just don't care for Katelyn Epperly; Lacey Brown doesn't know who she is (nor is she really talented); Didi Benami wasn't awful in Hollywood, but she's already gotten old; & Katie Stevens wouldn't make a sound if you plugged her nose.

Now, my favorite guy (& possibly contestant, should he do what he's capable of) is Todrick Hall & I don't think he got enough credit for his performance this week, but it still wasn't a very good vocal showcase. I also think Jermaine Sellers is talented, but he hasn't a clue how to use his voice & he may not have enough time to learn. As for Andrew Garcia, I'm on the fence because I like his voice, but his acoustic versions of every song ever are gonna get really old, really fast if he doesn't come harder. That's it though... Aaron Kelly & Casey James are just not for me, Tim Urban's not even worth my energy (although he seems like a nice person), Lee Dewyze & John Park are awful, Michael Lynche is frustratingly bad (Maroon 5? Really?!), & Alex Lambert leaves me at a loss for words. I'm glad Tyler Grady is gone & although Joe Munoz wasn't the worst of the bunch (+ I feel sorry for him since he only left because of his lack of screen time), he wasn't anything special.

Since I haven't done one of these in a while, I feel kinda bad about being so negative towards all these people, but I'm only being honest & American Idol holds a special place in my heart, so to see such a lousy crop of contestants is discouraging, to say the least. I know many people say that the contestants will grow & get better over time, & I'm sure they probably will, but looking back on the last couple of seasons, no first semifinal round was this pathetic.

To round things out, I'm going to be leaving you with the latest episode of The BabyV Show every week. Starring the fourth season of Idol's third-place finisher (& best contestant ever) Vonzell Solomon, The BabyV Show provides some insight into each corresponding week of Idol as well as *drumroll* Boonquisha! Take a look:

UPDATE: You can buy Kris Allen's live version of "Let It Be" to benefit Haiti now HERE.

Disney World Christmas Day Parade Performance Highlights

Celine Dion "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day"

Celine Dion "O Come All Ye Faithful"

Kris Allen "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree"

Don't totally shake off that Christmas spirit just yet because HQ (if not perfect) videos of Celine Dion & Kris Allen's performances on the Disney World Christmas Day Parade have just surfaced & they're too incredible, in Celine's case, & fun, in Kris', to miss! In fact, I don't care if Christmas is over. I suddenly feel the urge to pull out Celine's These Are Special Times CD--if not her entire catalog!

Kris Allen Performs "Live Like We're Dying" On So You Think You Can Dance

The American Idol winner everyone forgot about Kris Allen performed "Live Like We're Dying," the first single off his self-titled debut album, on So You Think You Can Dance. I'm sorry, but it feels like Kris has been performing this song since 1492.

Billboard Update

^#1 Album #1 Single^

In a week full of exciting new releases, America didn't care once again & opted to place John Mayer's Battle Studies at the top of this week's Billboard 200 album chart. Kris Allen's self-titled debut album opened at #11 with 80,000 copies sold, giving him the lowest first-week sales & chart position ever for an Idol winner's debut. Leona Lewis' sophomore album Echo started out at #13 with 67,000 copies sold, while OneRepublic came in at #22 with Waking Up, right above Janet Jackson's Number Ones at #23. (Unfortunately, Kid Sister's Ultraviolet was unable to make the chart.) On the Hot 100 singles chart, Jay-Z & Alicia Keys earn a second week on top with "Empire State Of Mind."

Kris Allen On Ellen

"Live Like We're Dying"

Interview

Kris Allen stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres show to perform "Live Like We're Dying" off his self-titled debut album & sit down for a little chat afterwards. The interview was nice & Kris is cool & all... but I don't like this song.
