Keyshia Cole Returning To Reality TV

Following the poor reception of her fourth, non-reality show-assisted album Calling All Hearts, Keyshia Cole has made the decision to return to the platform that has brought her so much success in the past. Instead of Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is however, she will star in the upcoming reality series Family First. Details, such as the network & premiere date/time, are still up in the air. I don't know how much people will care for a show that doesn't include the crazy side of her family... yet all I can SMH about is what in the world made her do that to her head?!

Keyshia Cole "Take Me Away" Video Premiere

"Take Me Away" is the third single off Keyshia Cole's fourth album Calling All Hearts. Looks like Monica's Still Standing album cover come to life! lol I am glad this got a video though. If only all of Calling All Hearts was in the same league as this song...

Keyshia Cole Performs "Better Me" On 2011 BET Honors

Keyshia Cole performed "Better Me", the closer on her most recent album Calling All Hearts, at the 2011 BET Honors. Um, something tells me Boobie wasn't an honoree that evening... nah, I get it. She actually managed to sound better than the crappy studio version there towards the end!

Keyshia Cole Performs "Take Me Away" On Conan

Keyshia Cole visited Conan to perform "Take Me Away", the third single off her latest album Calling All Hearts, &, ya, she hit a note or two, but I can't help but feel depressed by this. For one, the song is actually one of the few decent tracks on her new album & this messy performance doesn't do it any justice. Mainly though, I'm just not feeling any kind of drive from Keyshia whatsoever this era (see: that Circus-era Britney lazy dancing). I mean, I fell in love with a soulful singer who could actually sing--& exceptionally well too. What happened to her?!

Album Review: Keyshia Cole "Calling All Hearts"

Keyshia Cole has been my girl since 2005 when she released her debut album The Way It Is. With 2007's Just Like You & 2008's A Different Me, Keyshia gave me two more of my favorite albums to date. In the two years that she's taken in-between albums to get engaged & have a baby though, something happened. Maybe she just got lazy, I don't know, but as much as I hate to say it, Calling All Hearts is her worst album--by far.

1. "I Ain't Thru" (ft. Nicki Minaj): As it happens, the mastered version of this song is awesome! It's a very solid uptempo &, well, it doesn't hurt that Nicki murders her verse..! 5/5

2. "Long Way Down": A pretty standard slow jam from Keyshia, which would normally be a great thing, but, although it's still good, her sluggish vocals start showing up here. 4.5/5

3. "Tired Of Doing Me" (ft. Tank): These two sound great together on this ballad, Keyshia's terrible first run aside. 4/5

4. "If I Fall In Love Again" (ft. Faith Evans): They make a decent pairing on this very nice throwback joint. 4.5/5

5. "So Impossible": It's frustrating because this song was on the verge of greatness, but Keyshia's vocals are all over the place. 3.5/5

6. "Sometimes": I can hardly listen to this potentially amazing ballad because her vocals are so out of tune. Ron, help!?! 3/5

7. "Take Me Away": Aaahhh, like a breath of fresh air: A song that someone spent more than five minutes producing! Ya, I know Keyshia only sounds good when her vocals are over-produced. Do I look like I care? This is my jam! 5/5

8. "What You Do To Me": Her voice is shot on this track & it doesn't help that it sounds like a leftover from A Different Me. (Ya, she was lying when she said this album was a return to the dramatic tone of her first two.) 3/5

9. "Last Hangover" (ft. Timbaland): This is actually one of Timbaland's best in recent memory. Very cool midtempo. 5/5

10. "Thank You" (ft. Dr. Yvonne Cole): Good as her intentions may have been with this song, Keyshia sounds pretty awful on it. Upstaged by her mom much? 1.5/5

11. "Better Me": Where did the breathy vibrato mess come from?! And on top of not being able to stand to listen to her voice here, she's singing this heartfelt ballad to someone whose nickname is "Boobie" *blinks twice*. 1.5/5

Despite it's few highlights, Calling All Hearts is simply half-baked. It's polarizing feeling is evened out a bit in the deluxe edition with the mediocrity of "Confused In Love", the chorus of which sounds great *cough* & mastered *cough*, while the verses are painful; "Two Sides To Every Story", which is alright vocally, but horribly written; & "Where Would We"; decide for yourself if that's a good or bad thing. It's just as if they completely skipped the mastering process for most of the album in order to get it out on time or something. She could've saved half these songs, recorded for another six months, & actually put out her fourth straight incredible album, but we got this instead. This is rare, possibly a first, for me, but rather than buying the entire album this time, I would recommend just downloading the best tracks because you'll skip the others everytime anyway.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Keyshia Cole Performs Mini-Concert On 106 & Park

On the Calling All Hearts promo trail, Keyshia Cole stopped by 106 & Park to perform a mini-concert of songs from her new album, which are listed below. I'll give her an A for effort! Really though, despite having misplaced it throughout the entire recording process for the new album, Keyshia began to find her voice again during this mini-concert, possibly even succeeding towards the end of the last song.

I Ain't Thru
If I Fall In Love Again
Sometimes
Tired Of Doing Me (ft. Tank)
Long Way Down

New Music Tuesday

The year's final New Music Tuesday brings a pair of new releases. The first is Keri Hilson's sophomore album No Boys Allowed, which features the singles "Breaking Point", "Pretty Girl Rock", & the Rick Ross-assisted "The Way You Love Me". Also, we have Keyshia Cole's fourth album Calling All Hearts, which includes the singles "I Ain't Thru" featuring Nicki Minaj & "Long Way Down". So far, I'm enjoying Keri's album more than Keyshia's (something I did not expect), but feel free to test either or both of them out by using the purchase links either below or via the widget on your right.

New Keyshia Cole Promo Pic

Here's another promotional photo for Keyshia Cole's upcoming album Calling All Hearts (December 21st)... & I would be fine if it would like to leak any day now. She doesn't seem to be doing, well, anything visually this time around, which sucks.

Keyshia Cole Performs "Long Way Down" On Wendy Williams

Keyshia Cole gave an alright performance of "Long Way Down" on The Wendy Williams Show before the two chatted it up about her baby, fiance, & mom Frankie for a bit. Keyshia's fourth album Calling All Hearts hits stores on December 21st & I'm (honestly) hoping for another over-produced smash!

Keyshia Cole "Calling All Hearts" Tracklisting

The *official* tracklisting (which is NOT what the Prune Juice or whatever they are reported) for Keyshia Cole's upcoming fourth album Calling All Hearts (December 21st) has been revealed:

1. I Ain't Thru (ft. Nicki Minaj)
2. Long Way Down
3. Tired Of Doing Me (ft. Tank)
4. If I Fall In Love Again (ft. Faith Evans)
5. So Impossible
6. Confused In Love*
7. Sometimes
8. Take Me Away
9. What You Do To Me
10. Last Hangover (ft. Timbaland)
11. Two Sides To Every Story*
12. Where Would We*
13. Thank You (ft. Dr. Yvonne Cole)
14. Better Me

* means that it's only available on the deluxe edition (which has the same cover, but in black & white)... & I'm not sure how I feel about these artists putting the bonus tracks amongst the rest of them. I mean, if it flows, then I'm all for it... but it almost makes the standard edition irrelevant cause it's like you're not getting everything. Psh, I've always bought the deluxe editions anyway lol. And, uh, how about her mom being featured on "Thank You"?! Interesting.

Keyshia Cole Performs "Long Way Down" On Leno

Keyshia Cole visited The Tonight Show With Jay Leno to perform the lead ballad "Long Way Down" off her upcoming fourth album Calling All Hearts (December 21st). It started out rough (I don't know why she does this... I know she can sing live. She does it every once-in-a-while.), but picked up towards the end.

The 2010 Soul Train Awards Recap

Jazmine Sullivan & Doug E. Fresh - Medley

Keyshia Cole Tributes Ron Isley

I haven't watched the 2010 Soul Train Awards yet, although I plan to via my DVR as soon as I have the time, but I can already tell you that the highlight of the evening was Jazmine Sullivan's medley of "10 Seconds" & "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)", which she brought out Doug E. Fresh (whom I believe she sampled on "Holding You Down") for. I could listen to her sing live all day! Another impressive vocal showing came from Keyshia Cole, who participated in a tribute to Ron Isley. (Note: I don't think the above video is the whole tribute--I stopped watching when Keyshia was done--but it's the only portion of it I could find in HQ anyway.) As for the winners, my favorite would have to be Ciara's "Ride" for Best Dance Performance! Other include Melanie Fiona for Best New Artist, Usher for Best Male R&B/Soul Artist (tied with Trey Songz...a mess) & Album Of The Year (Raymond Vs. Raymond), Rihanna & Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" for Best Hip-Hop Song Of The Year, Alicia Keys for Best Female R&B/Soul Artist (shoulda been Monica or Fantasia...) & Record Of The Year for "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)", & Janelle Monae, who won the Centric Award. View all the winners HERE.
