Album Review: Britney Spears "Circus (Deluxe Edition)"
Circus begins with "Womanizer," which is followed by the second single "Circus," a worthy title track that will surely cement Britney's place on top once again. Despite the lack of any real slow material on her last album Blackout, she wastes no time here with "Out From Under." I rather enjoyed the song because it had Britney sounding better than I've heard in a long time. "Kill The Lights," a cool track that calls out the paparazzi, has her displaying a slicker-than-usual sound, while the uptempo "Shattered Glass" sounds like something straight from Britney circa 2004.
One of the highlights of the album can be found in "If You Seek Amy," which I like not only for its *creative* lyrics, but also because it has just the sound & all the sass that we love about Britney. What I did not expect to find on Circus was a song like "Unusual You," which gives us a more vulnerable side of Britney to love. "Blur" is similar to the track it follows, but lacks that extra special something. Another song I can't really get into is the funky "Mmm Papi." No worries, however, because she redeems herself with "Mannequin," which could give her just the dance number she needs.
The main album begins to wrap up with "Lace & Leather," the better funky track on Circus. What I can't quite figure out is why they placed this song right before the album's closer "My Baby" because you can't help but feel awkward listening to a sweet dedication to her young children directly after you've heard Britney discuss her favorite *pleasurable* activities. A slightly altered version of Blackout's "Radar" appears here as a bonus track & won't really change your original opinion of the song, but since I liked it then, I like it now. If you purchase the deluxe edition of Circus, you will receive the two tracks "Rock Me In" & "Phonography." While the former uptempo could easily replace a few of the regular album cuts, the latter is a bit too explicit (for a mom) & weird for my taste.
I would have to say that Circus is a worthy comeback album for Britney. What we all know & love about her is present &, in parts, even improved. Personally, I do prefer Blackout between the two, but that is only because the urban sound appeals more to me. Nonetheless, Circus, though not perfect, has its advantages & should serve Britney well for the performing she plans to do in support of the project. In the end, Britney Spears is back ... & it feels so good.

Weekend Flashback Performance: Beyonce At The 2003 MTV VMAs
I find it hard to believe that it's already been five years since Beyonce struck it out on her own with Dangerously In Love. Still, who could forget her debut solo single "Crazy In Love" & her performance of both it & "Baby Boy" at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. Beyonce herself later questioned why she decided to lower herself upside down from the ceiling, but it sure does make for one hot entrance. And isn't it nice to see that mad fly "Crazy In Love" dance routine again? Beyonce made sure we knew she was here to stay ... & she sure is.
Britney Spears Performs "Womanizer" On The X Factor
Britney Spears rocked the X Factor stage moments ago with yet another performance of "Womanizer," the first single off her new album Circus (December 2nd). With a few less theatrics than the previous pair of performances, Britney was able to display her abilities as a performer a bit better this time & show the world that Britney's back. Job well done, Brit!

"You Can"
"A Little Too Not Over You"
"Touch My Hand"
"My Hands"
"Crush"
David Archuleta performed five selections from his self-titled debut album, which is out now, on AOL Sessions. This is the most incredible set of performances I've ever seen. Lord have mercy. Everybody, watch "You Can" & if that doesn't get you, you're a robot. I loved every single one of these & I would go as far as to say that David sang these songs better live than on the CD. Who knew you could improve on perfection?!

Craig David recently did a showcase for Radio Contact in Belgium where he performed an acoustic version of his new song "Insomnia" & his hit "7 Days" in addition to participating in an interview to promote his recently release greatest hits album. Craig is such a talent, so it's a real treat to hear him singing live acoustically. The interview has Craig discussing his rather ambitious goals for his fifth studio album.

*UPDATED* Beyonce Performs On Tyra
Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
If I Were A Boy
Beyonce performed her two singles "If I Were A Boy" & "Single Ladies" from the newly released album I Am... Sasha Fierce on The Tyra Banks Show. Joining Beyonce during "Single Ladies" this time were two male dancers! They put it down though. No matter how many times I've posted these two songs recently, they are both worth the watch every time. I'm assuming there was an interview, so if it surfaces, I'll post.
UPDATE: Here's the interview--

"Flaws & All"
Interview
Beyonce spent the day on The Ellen DeGeneres Show by performing both "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," which is off Beyonce's newly released album I Am... Sasha Fierce, & "Flaws & All," an Ellen favorite, & doing an interview. Despite the awful quality of the video, Beyonce unsurprisingly did incredibly well with "Single Ladies" once again & sounded flawless (no pun intended?!) on "Flaws & All." The interview is great as well.

Kanye West promoted the release of his fourth album 808s & Heartbreak, which came out yesterday, by performing its first single "Love Lockdown" on The Late Show With David Letterman. Kanye gets a little carried away with this song live. I listened to 808s & Heartbreak & although I enjoyed it to an extent, it isn't nearly as great as some of the reviews I've read claim that it is.

The 2008 American Music Awards Performance Highlights
Mariah Carey "I Stay In Love"
Kanye West "Heartless"
Rihanna "Rehab"
Sure the awards themselves were duds, but the 2008 American Music Awards was the best awards show of the year—thanks in no small part to the outstanding lineup of performers. Christina Aguilera opened the show in an unprecedented way with a hits medley that included “Beautiful,” “Keeps Gettin’ Better,” “Genie In A Bottle,” “Dirrty,” “Ain’t No Other Man” & “Fighter.” Nonstop action! I loved it. Beyonce did an amazing job with her performance. The Pussycat Dolls performed both “I Hate This Part” & “When I Grow Up,” & though Nicole was vocally on-point, my favorite part was the dance break toward the end. One of the most shocking highlights of the night was when Pink joined Sarah McLachlan on stage for a duet. Beautiful gorgeousness. Alicia Keys brought the show to a close with a couple guests & though it was a bit of a mess, it wasn’t bad. I couldn’t for the life of me get into Leona Lewis’ performance however. Love her, but if I hear that @#$% song one more time… RELEASE ANOTHER SINGLE ALREADY! The underrated Natasha Bedingfield shined with her medley of “Soulmate,” “Unwritten,” & “Pocketful Of Sunshine.” Kanye West also did his thing, while Rihanna was simply blah. Mariah Carey & Pink’s solo performance were enjoyable as well. For a complete list of winners, click HERE.

Divas II Performance Highlights
Leona Lewis "Run"
Pink "So What"
Rihanna "Disturbia"
Many of today's finest female artists performed at the recent Divas II event in the UK. Leona Lewis sang "Run" & I must say that this is my favorite song for Leona live. It fits her very well. Pink performed "So What" & did a good job. Rihanna's performance of "Disturbia" didn't do much for me though, as I only really see her as a studio artist.

Weekend Flashback Performance: Kelly Rowland At The 2006 MTV VMAs Japan
One of last year's most underrated albums imo is Kelly Rowland's Ms. Kelly. All three members of Destiny's Child bring something special to the table as soloists & this performance proves that point for Kelly Rowland. Before launching her last project with "Like This," Kelly planned on releasing "Gotsta Go," a song that would eventually not make the final tracklisting, as its first single. The track was properly performed at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards Japan & Kelly absolutely killed it. This just goes to show how much star power was packed into our favorite girl group of the last decade.

*UPDATED* Keri Hilson ft. Lil' Wayne "Turnin' Me On" Video Premiere
"Turnin' Me On," featuring Lil' Wayne, is the third single taken from Keri Hilson's forthcoming debut album In A Perfect World.... This video isn't quite the spectacle that "Return The Favor" was, but I love it all the same. Keri looks amazing throughout the Erik White-directed clip. I wish they would have given her second single a bit more of a push, but maybe Keri can promote both of these tracks come time for her album release. In the mean time, peep cameos from Polow Da Don & Rich Boy in "Turnin' Me On."

Solange "T.O.N.Y." Video Premiere
"T.O.N.Y." is the third single off Solange's latest album SoL-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams. I like the song, but I'm on the fence about the video. Let's just get the obvious outta the way: if your more famous sister, whom you are trying to separate yourself from, has a black & white theme going on at the moment, then you need to stay far, far away from it. The beginning is a bit strange, but it just gets downright funky towards the end. I guess it ends up being kinda sweet & it does fit the song, so it's whatever. Do look out for a cameo from Cee-Lo btw.

"If I Were A Boy"
Beyonce celebrated the release of her third studio album I Am... Sasha Fierce by performing her two singles on 106 & Park today. "Single Ladies," which was #1(!), just doesn't get old. I allowed myself to enjoy "If I Were A Boy" this time & ... can you say perfection? Make sure you get that album!

Album Review: Beyonce "I Am... Sasha Fierce (Deluxe Edition)"
I Am... starts off with the powerful "If I Were A Boy," followed by "Halo," an amazing song that's just begging to become a hit. "Disappear," aside from being absolutely gorgeous, basically begins the trend that runs throughout all of I Am... Sasha Fierce that makes it extra special: Beyonce gets creative with her vocal ability. I like a woman with a great voice, but I love a woman with a great voice who never relies solely on her incredible talent.
Beyonce continues I Am... with "Broken-Hearted Girl," which is more of the vocal beauty that, at first listen, had me already wondering if it would even be possible to love Sasha more than Beyonce herself. If you want to be blown away, listen to "Ave Maria." The track that follows, "Smash Into You," will work too, as it is enough of a reason by itself to pass up the standard edition of this album for the deluxe one. Beyonce closes off the first disc with "Satellites," a beautiful atmospheric song, & "That's Why You're Beautiful," a fitting end to the excellent I Am....
Enter Sasha Fierce. She starts off with "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," which may at first seem like your typical Beyonce uptempo (which isn't a bad thing at all), but one view of the video & you'll get it. More of the aforementioned creativity reappears with "Radio," while "Diva" could be considered an improved female version of "A Milli." I wasn't particularly impressed with the early leaked version of "Sweet Dreams," but the final edit is awesome.
Sasha had me at "Video Phone," which has attitude for days. She does, however, get a little more personal on "Hello" without getting out of character. Staying in character can definitely be said about "Ego," a suggestive midtempo. Sasha Fierce ends with "Scared Of Lonely," which I will honestly say that, although it's not a bad song, I just can't quite wrap my head around how the song really fits on this disc.
Overall, Beyonce really pulled it off with I Am... Sasha Fierce. I loved her last album B'Day, so for her to have an entire disc of slow jams to showcase her talent was a great way for me to appreciate Bee without comparing this album to her last one. At the same time, giving Sasha Fierce some shine was a great thing, especially because Beyonce was able to raise her game in some aspects enough so that I could simply enjoy the new music. I really loved what Beyonce accomplished vocally with I Am... Sasha Fierce & I truly feel that Beyonce has solidified her place as one of our generation's best.
